Looks like Google Voice got an update. Now 0.3.2. Looks like it finally has Push. Installing on my leaked 2.1 to see if it works. If so, I can finally stop ignoring the Update notice!

p.s. I did search and it didn't look like this had been mentioned... apologies if it has.

Me too. I really hate the 2.0 app. I may have to start doing the old payphone trick of calling people and getting them to call me right back. lol

I can't even archive text messages with the 0.2 app! I have to use the web interface to do that. Booo.

    What's a payphone?

(Kidding...but seriously, when was the last time you even saw a payphone in public, besides at the airport???)

They still have them at most gas stations. I noticed one of them ringing the other day when i walked by. It is the only reason I know. :)

Ok, this is a little off-topic but it's still GV related. When I make a call using GV, I get the bridging number and whatever....but then after I finish the call, the stupid phone or Google keeps automatically adding the bridging number to my contacts list...sometimes it adds it to the person that I just called. It's really driving me crazy because I keep having to go through my Contacts and erasing the new entries.

I've tried assigning the bridging number to my voicemail number (all 3 variations: 11 digits, 10 digits, 11 digits and plus sign) in the hopes it would stop adding it to my Contacts...but still no luck.

I turned off "Save to contacts" so I don't know why this keeps happening. Does this happen to anyone else using GV for outgoing calls?

Just tested mine and I can dial out, but it dials as my cell number, not my Google Voice number.

Uninstalling and going back to 2.0 until the OTA hits. Then will try again.

@ttran97 : I'm not having that problem with either version.

    @OTD : I couldn't even tell you how much a call is from a payphone... I'm guessing it's not 10 cents anymore... :)

I can still make the call, but it showing my actual cell number and not my Google voice number. The SMS and Voicemail work like a charm though. I have turned off email notification on both and they are being pushed to the app now.

The last time I used a payphone was in the early 90s so I have no idea how much they are either. I imagine that they have probably raised the rates just like the post office did.

@ttran97 I am not having that problem either. I can only imagine that it would be a setting in people someplace maybe.

Ok, I think it's just my eris then. Thanks. I think it's ok now that I added all 3 variations to one Contact (ie my own voicemail number).

Pushed notification for txt and voicemail sounds SO tempting. But I need the outgoing call to show my GV number, or else I don't think the whole Friends & Family thing would work and I'd end up using my minutes.

I'm kinda in the same boat. Love Push notification though so can't wait for ota.

PS One work around would be to just use the mobile google voice webpage and have it call someone by calling you, and then ringing them, that should still display the google voice number... little hassle though

yeah... way too long for me. I went back to having K-9 mail do the pushing for my GV email addy. K-9 is instant. Stock Gmail and now Voice is real slow. I've rebooted the phone, so I don't think I disabled anything to kill the stock push.

All I'm really using Google Voice for is the free Texts. We have a Family Share with 1400 mins that we don't even come close to using all the minutes, so I'm not too worried about the call out issue right now. And the OTA is due any minute anyhow... :)

Nowthat Google Voice 0.3.2 is out with push notifications but GV dial-out STILL doesn't work with the 2.1 leak...I'm going to stomp my feet, pout, and demand the OTA be delivered to my phone this instant.

I am actually going to keep testing this version. I don't make too many outgoing calls with GV so not as bad for me. I would love it to work, but I may just send people a text and tell them to call me or call them and have them call me back real quick. Either way, it won't kill me.

LOL Let us know how that works out.

So I tried a billion different ways to send a text to myself from another number like through AIM only to realize it's not possible for some reason that I don't know and that I could just send it to myself right through google voice.

This is a comparison of 4 speed notification tests while also listening to my laptop google chrome browser with the google voice extension which notifies me about 15 seconds afterwards everytime.

Using both the browser and leaving my phone on standby, I noticed my phone now does the sound notification about 45 seconds after sending a text on the first 1 try, which is perfect. That's a lot better than 5 mins or 15 mins or whatever I had it set to before. :) (Whcih appeared to check texts every 5 mins, which means it might notify you right away if it was on the exact 5 mins checkpoint)

With the phone, however, if you get one text, and ignore it and don't read it and neither clear it from the notification bar, a second text won't be pushed to me right away. After reading, the texts won't be pushed to the phone until about 90-120 seconds later it appears with the second text I sent. Still better than before, but no standard instant texting like a tradition service.

The third and fourth text I sent to myself took again 15 seconds to notify me max on the browser and about almost exactly 100 seconds after that to be pushed to my phone... I guess it gets tired and start to slack and vary. :)

These are just my tests and I will keep this new Google Voice version posted with my thoughts after real-world use.

Rather than poll for updates, the Google Voice app now works like the Gmail app - it has a stub that listens for notifications of new events (new voice mail, new sms message) and lets you know exactly when it happens, not on an every x minute schedule.

I ended up installing Flex Dialer to dial through GV. Not as slick, but I can deal with it for a week since we should have the OTA update by then...right? ;)

The annoying part about Flex Dialer is that it takes forever to get a call to go through...gotta listen to your voicemail prompt and listen to all the numbers being punched in. haha. It is a good backup program to use if you don't have 3G or some reason the data network is down, though.

I wonder if the OTA update would even fix the problem with Google Voice. We had an Eris-only dialing problem with Google Voice for a few weeks back in December, right after the MR1 update and it took Google a while to release another update that fixed that. So even if we get the OTA, we might have to wait until the next Voice update comes along. ;)

The new leaked 2.1 still doesn't work correctly with outgoing calls for this updated Google Voice. It isn't showing my GV number, only Verizon number.

    :(

Back to the 0.2 Google Voice app we go...
