If you won the Google Voice Contest on AndroidForums or Phandroid, your account is now active. I set up this little thread for everyone to share and discuss.

    ENJOY!

Woot, Rob, you're the man. Google Voice is sick, and remember everyone, grab the GV app from Market to make things easier. ;)

HAHA I found my number in... 30 seconds. They didn't have 718 numbers, so that made it easy :(

I noticed when I logged in that I had the balance of .10 cents. Did I win .10 cents of international calling? Hah.

Anyway, Google Voice looks awesome thus far and I can't wait to start using it everyday as more and more people learn my Google number. I can't wait for them to let us use our actual numbers.

Thanks for hooking us up Rob and keeping us informed, this is awesome.

So far, I'm madly in love with it. I'd KILL for some native support for this within Android. I'm not a fan of the GV SMS interface. And it seems that both my G1 and Google Voice have issues determining who sent the message to my new Voice number, but all-in-all, it was VERY easy to setup and use. Thanks again for the hook up Rob. As I use it more and get more comfortable with it, I'll check back in for an update.

Definitely needs some native support in Android. I dislike GV too and I plan on stick with the mobile Google Voice.

    For instance...
Everyone in my family is a T-Mobile customer. We did this to save money on our plans since the call minutes would all be considered mobile to mobile and therefore no charge. Now, once I give them my new Google Voice number and they call it using their cell phone will this still be billed as a mobile to mobile phone call or not?

It doesn't seem like it. Not only that, in order to get my text messages saved to my Google Voice account they have to text my Google number. Therefor my phone has no way of detecting how to split them up. So now all my text going to my Google number will be lumped into one thread and each text will display the name such like "Ben Affleck: Say what?"

You see? I really dislike this fact. Although, I've only recieved texts from one person so maybe somehow it does decipher them. I just don't see how it would if I recieve them all like that.

And since it works like that and doesnt allow your phone to recognize their actual number then I'm assuming it wouldn't be mobile to mobile minutes. But, if you have myFavs with t-mobile, if you had the Google number as one of your myFaves then maybe that will make a difference? Don't quote me on this cause it's all just merely a few suggestions.

Anyway, I'm a little disappointed, but I'm really excited. Make sure all of you pay attention to the feedback pages on the Google Voice site. We want to get out numbers ported and we want many other features! Google will help bring all of this to us if we help them recognize what it is that we want. So, check it out and keep up to date with it as Google and it's evil engineers are always at work.

Ive been usin Google Voice all day.. One thing I cant seem to do is make my voicemail for my regular t mobile phone number go to my google voice mailbox.. when I do the *404* thingy with my gv number, it tells me theres a network error or somethin..? other than that I let everyone know about my new number and I'm way stoked about it!

I do think if you add your google voice number to your my faves you might be able to save some money that way.. But I dont know for sure seeing as I think they mask the number so its not really coming from that specific number..?

I cant wait to see more Google Voice apps released cuz I'd love to try em out. Any devs wanna let me beta test??? =) matthenry87@gmail.com

Another cool thing I wanna try is the phone switching when in incoming calls. I guess as long as you have more than one phone, on an incoming call you can hit * and it rings all the other phones on your gv account. then you just pick it up and it transfers over without the other person even knowing.

Oh, and dyno, I'm sure you've already noticed that each contact is assigned a 406 number once they text you. Thats how they are separated. They don't all go into the same thread.

Check out this cool thread with more info about 406 numbers.

Ah, I've yet to recieve a text from anyone else so I figured they would all have the same number. That's a little strange, so all my contacts are going to have a new number now too?

    Again, slightly disappointed.

Well, they will each have their own numbers but I don't see any need to save them to the contacts.. When I use the GV app I just select the contact (which doesn't include the persons 406 #) and it dials to them. I only see the 406 in text messages, and I use the GV app to send my sms messages by default so Its not like I need to know each contact's 406. It automatically responds to you from that 406 and you just respond in the default sms app.

I haven't been able to get the "dial out" method working in GV, but I think this might have something to do with the "If this is your first time blah blah blah" message. Maybe the app's actions arent responded to while its saying the initial call welcome thingy thing. Andwhatnot. I'll try it again and see if that message goes away.. It does kind of take a second for the "call back" method to ring your phone.

And another thing! I wish that my gmail and my google voice could be combined so I dont have to have 1 tab for each. That would be shweet.

Ummm after reading a bit more I do realize that the 406 numbers can be saved to contacts and dialed to directly dial that person using your voice #. Thats kinda cool instead of having to wait for the GV app..

Got my GV setup late last night. Only 1 number available in my area code so, not much for the pickin's. What an incredible gift.. thank you very much for this. my experience so far

    1. Easy setup
    2. All functions work seemlessly
    3. Easy to use.

I too was wondering about the T-Mobile fav's connection. If you were to set up your fav as your GV number, would every call coming fom that number essentially be included? Sounds logical.

Again, thanks for the opportunity Rob.

Well, I'm up and running full time on GV now.

I figured out how to use dial out, and now my SMS messages are coming back with the right contact associated with them, and I can now use Chomp to fire off SMS to their 406 numbers, and it works like a charm.

Coley: I changed one fav to my GV number ,and it appears, in the billing, it's working just like you would expect it to. If you are dialing your GV number, or you are using callback, it should just assign your MyFav mins to that number. Which means, yes, unlimited calling. :p

Anyone else having any problems with the GV app? When I hang up a call it calls again and tries to connect me again. Very annoying lol.
