Hey so im a little worried about rooting my phone using something i shouldn't because i used to do stuff with psp's and eventually bricked mine. Cant have that happen to my phone!

So i was wondering if there is a link someone could provide me to rooting specifically the 2.1 telus milestone or just give me some information whether or not i could brick it.
Oh and i have a Mac.
    Thanks!

PS i hear if i root i might lose 3G. Is this true?
    Im scared :p

Rooting only adds two files to the file system. A "su" file which provides the "su" command that gives you root privileges and a "Superuser.apk" file, which asks you permission when an application wants to use the "su" command. These files have nothing to do with 3g and so you definitely wont lose 3g.

The milestone_root.zip file is large (30MB) most likely cause it takes advantage of the "vulnerability" in the "vulnerable recovery". Otherwise, the "su" and "Superuser.apk" files that it adds to the file system are just 24KB in total.

If you use a service version it won't erase anything (confirmed by me rooting my milestone)

Root is also very useful for some apps, like if you have the Motorola multimedia station and you use it as a night clock the four bottom LEDs can be very annoying and bright, LED hack can fix this (Although it sometimes doesn't work, also it needs root).

The ONE main reason I rooted? Overclocking.

    Hey,

I was told rooting will completely wipe my phone. So did you still retain your apps after you rooted?

I have installed this in less then a minute and it is fine, however the only thing is what do you do with this now? is there some screen i am supposed to go to to remove excess apps i do not need? what can i use, i am pretty phone and application savvy so i know what to do, i even build my own apps, just wondering where to start now with this root.

Depends on what you want to do. If you want to remove unwanted applications use Root Explorer. Make sure you read as much as you can as with root you can break the phone.

The custom ROMs for the Milestone do not require root prior installation.
