Aaaahhh I had the same problem!! :) veeery simple solution

    1.) Download Root Explorer
    2.) Enable Root Mode/Mount System
    3.) Navigate to /system/
4.) Create a new folder called 'sd'
5.) Ensure you're phone has at least 50% of battery
6.) Reboot and try the backup again.

ES File Explorer is free and does a lot more than move files around. It's now one of the best apps for am rooted device.

BTW, I've never worried about the sd-ext backup since the SD card is at no risk when flashing a ROM.

You can flash a custom kernel and overclock it.

OC Kernel for MarvelC: [KERNEL][MARVELC][A510c][SENSE] 2.6.35 Jmz Wildfire S OC Kernel 18FEB1

Use No Frills CPU from Google Play to overclock it once the kernel is flashed. If you have any problems, do a factory reset, wipe cache including dalvic and restore the nandroid backup.

I know exactly what I've done wrong now. I read it all carefully but failed to piece two things together, what an idiot I am.

The best part in my opinion, delete bloatware apps (pre-installed apps)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! No more Youtube, twitter, Pluk, HTC Facebook and all that...

Did that already!!! :D also installed a lot of apps meant for rooted phones... like cpu master, proxyDroid, ram manager, Webkey etc... Simply loving my rooted phone..

But mine is marvel ( GSM based ) Do you have anything for that??? also does overclocking reduce battery life??? can the phone b customized for underclocking when idle? (to improve battery life??

I believe that 1 must app is Link2SD. This will ensure that you will never haave any memory problem....EVER!!
As far as Marvel, I don't know much about Kernel but I do like the Cyanogen rom if you want to get rid of your Sense rom

    +1 on both counts.

In that case, just install a custom ROM with OC kernel. The first one you should try is Cyanogen 7.1 as linked in step 5 of the guide.

Link for what mod? If you're referring to Cyanogenmod, no because it's not my ROM.

Supertoolv3 works with any Android version or ROM. No need to be afraid. Rooting is not that risky. If you've unlocked your phone's bootloader, the hard work is done ;)

If you are referring to your micro SD card, no. Root changes a setting in internal memory.

i then installed Superuser app by ChainsDD but Link2sd tells me i have no root access. so i then tried the alternative way which is to here

Happy days :) all working fine now!! i was able to skipped the step where i was getting the CID error and go straight to uploading the root.zip, boot into recovery and run the root.zip to do the actual rooting. Great guide. now the comes the fun bit...

was reading somewhere about an android 4 mod for the WFS. any ideas if and when a stable release will be available?
