So a few days ago I went to download a few apps. None of them seemed to want to download and I was pretty annoyed about this for about 2 days. Suddenly the Market seemed to work again, and I got 5 or 6 notifications of successfully installed apps. Winner :)

Unfortunately, there's one that seems not to have downloaded: "Street View On Google Maps". It thinks it's downloaded, but it's not there. If I go to delete apps on my phone, I can't see it. If I go to place an app or a widget on my home page, I can't see it. However, if I find it in the market, it says it's installed. And if I tap it in the market, both the "Open" and "Uninstall" buttons are greyed out. Does anyone have any idea what's going on here and how I can fix it? If it makes any difference, I'm on a HTC Desire HD.

Pull your battery out of the phone, then put it back...

Have you tried settings>Applications>Manage Applications>Market and clearing the app data?

Do you want my help or not? Just do the battery pull. It's just like rebooting your pc when you have problems with it locking up.

Yeah, tried that, no luck :(

Well not really if your only answer is to cut power. That rarely actually solves a problem, it just shuts down the system and thus problematic programs and threads. Cutting the power to the phone while it's on is likely to do more harm than good.

Actually it solves MOST problems and glitches like yours. Most carriers tell you to do this at least once a week to keep your phone running properly.

And clears the cache for all running programs, which is what seems to be your problem.

Exactly the opposite, it does more good than harm. there is NO harm done by doing so. Techs at cell phone repair centers do this all the time.

You can clear the cache for a program in the settings menu, and this is one of the first things I tried. I just prefer to find the root cause of a problem so I can fix it instead of temporarily making it go away.

No, it's not there :( Was that on the phone when you got it? If so, do you have a branded version?

No idea. I think it was part of Google Maps, to be honest, but I don't have the market app installed. I do know that if I use ES File Explorer to browse to /system/app/ I can see Street.apk and when i click it it asks if I want to reinstall the system app. I canceled it ... didn't feel like doing a reset if it mucked up things.

I have the AT&T version of the N1. Unlocked unrooted vanilla Android.

Ah! I used Astro and found the same file! Unfortunately it won't let me launch, delete or uninstall it, but it's there. I'm thinking maybe it was already installed, but Market didn't recognise it at first. I still don't actually see any way to use it, even within Google maps though. I'll try emailing HTC and see if they have any advice. Thanks!

It's not going to show in your "manage applications" because its an update for Google Maps. If you click and hold on a place in google maps a box will appear saying the street number and name. If you click that you'll see the street view icon and you'll be able to see the street view. If you want to get rid of it...I got no clue on how to do that. You might have to uninstall google maps.

I think the app the OP was trying to install is the street view on Google maps where you can drag the "pegman" around to get your views.

That's the app I'm talking about as well.

There is a street view component of Google maps that is installed as part of maps. However, there is also a Street View app in the market that adds the little "pegman" dude to your mapview that absolutely shows up in Manage Applications. That is what the OP was referring to.

Thanks guys. I hadn't realised that's how you access it in Google Maps already, I guess I assumed the icon would be on the main map, as in the PC version of Google Maps. I think Lunatic59 is right in saying that what I was trying to download is a different app to what is already installed. What I found odd about this is that none of the other pre-installed apps (Google Maps, Facebook, Twitter, etc.) show up as "Installed" when I see them in the market, whereas this one does since I tried to install it. All I wanted in the first place was to have street view in Google Maps, and I guess I already have that. Thanks for the help :)
