Its a text messaging replacement app but it makes the messaging app so much better looking. The stock Captivate looks horrible in comparison and you can really customize it...including not showing the picture next to each contact (hated that since I dont have a picture for most people), the background color, the font color, the size of the fonts...bold or not...its great! Highly recommended for the Captivate.

Now if I can find a similar email and calendar app we're in business!

Same here, I have it so customized right now. I can't wait until I get the Epic cause then I can even customize the notification light :D

By the way, how do you send an MMS message with this phone? Like if I want to attach a photo or movie into my message thread? On the iPhone it had the little camera icon next to the text input box.

I love handcent. I wish google voice had those features. But in order to save $20 per month on texting plan, I have to resort to google voice.

  9. i use handcent and its great but receiving multiple duplicate messages does get annoying

Definitely, you can do bubbles or just standard thread style.

You can turn off the notification for the stock messages and you won't get duplicate notifications.

I use handcent as well and really do enjoy the customization.

:D Yea, I forgot to turn off the default notifications when I first installed Handcent! When the 3 people I had SMS threads going with first responded I was like "WTF! What the hell have I done!" :p

I was not impressed with handcent. Not enough polish, like so many Android apps. I will try Chomp though tonight.

  19. i dont get dual notifications since i turned them off in the native messaging app. like my screenshot shows, handcent shows duplicates of the same message. it only happens occasionally though so its not that big of a deal. although it could just be an issue with the phone or at&t.

  20. handcent allows it too

How do you turn off the notifications so it stops showing the puzzle piece? I turned off Notifications in Settings but it still does it.

Hmm, I killed the stock Messaging app and that worked. Can I just delete the app all together?
