i did everything possible to get rid of this, including a hard reset. i was pretty resigned to it being a fact of life because what I suspected was that the zillion of widgets I have all over my homescreens were causing memory issues. Well, I found the solution for my Evo: Auto Memory Manager, available on the market. I set it to Aggressive. Have not had ONE redraw since using it. Its not an auto task killer like ATK...you set the memory levels (does have presets built in) and it clears low priority apps when that level is reached, which is far superior to an auto task killer

now the only question is whether this will get moved to the app forum, but i hope not...this seems to be affecting evo owners in particular a lot :D

when you hit 'home' and all the icons and widgets repopulate as if the phone were just booting up

yeah I D/L this as well and am so far impressed my battery seems to be doing better. I have it on mild though as I don't want it to kill my alarms and important stuff needed to run behind the scenes.

Checking out Auto Memory Manager and I'm still having trouble figuring out how this is different from a Task killer. Can someone explain in as simple terms as possible?...LOL. I consider myself tech savvy to an extent, but I read the FAQ's on the website and I'm having trouble understanding what makes it different from a Task Killer.

Even the most basic answer, do I just load this up and leave it? How do I know which apps should be set at lower levels than others?

its a different approach, I think.

A task killer: set to kill tasks willy nilly (either all or selected ones) without regards to the actual state of the memory. Unselected ones are still killed by android's native task manager.

Auto Memory Manager: sets memory theshholds for the different way apps are (visible, running in background, running but not visisble, etc). Once a threshhold is reached at a certain limit (mild, aggressive, default, custom) then it will clear out the least prioritized apps. How does it decide? Don't know for sure, but I feel like it probably uses android supplied info about what android's native task manager would clear. So basically, it takes android's native method of task management and makes it more anal about memory. That is pure conjecture but I don't think I'm too off the mark if I'm mistaken.

    Thanks for explaining that.

So, in essence, I can download the app...not customize it at all, and it should help right? From your response, I'm gathering that it doesn't really have to be "customized" for priority apps.

you set it to either mild, default or aggressive. I do awesome on aggressive. Thats all you have to do. Its most DEFINITELY worth a try. Still no redraws :)

I have it on mild for now, but if I do have any re-draws, I'm going to switch it to aggressive. It is pretty simple because the different sliders are pre-set. I guess, for people who are more comfortable with it, they can set the sliders for custom purposes (which I don't think I'll need to do).

Thanks again for posting this. I thought that maybe the redraws I was experiencing was simply from switching back and forth from LauncherPro to Sense UI. Hopefully this app does the trick and maybe even help battery life (not that I'm having issues with that like some others have been because I've been getting at least 24 hours of battery life on regular use).

hmm, i don't ever get any redraws to my knowledge. i'm running fresh 3.1.0.2 but i am using the stock kernal.

i also haven't had any memory issues since going to froyo. i used to have issues all the time on 2.1 and my phone would even reboot at times.

i'll keep this in mind, sounds like an auto version of what i used to do with system panel while on 2.1. i rarely touch system panel to kill stuff anymore.

i also deleted any apps or widgets that i had downloaded that seem to run on their own, ones that i don't even have on my home screen.

It would be better to know the true cause of this.
