Root Having trouble with Odin when trying to root Spica

I'm trying to root my Spica for the past two days with frustratingly no success. I'm going by this tutorial which involves me using Odin Multidownloader to 'flash' my phone (yeah, noob with this). My drivers are successfully installed and Odin recognises my Spica as "1 COM 7". After going through the tutorial I press "START" but only the timer starts no green progress bar. Any help with this?

If this helps with your possible solution:

NPS was downloaded off the internet,
Firmware: 2.1 (ECLAIR or something)

The reason may be the firmware used for rooting is not the right one. I have had this problem earlier. It the phone has the original samsung firmware use the firmware in the below link LK2.08 for original firmwares - Root (new Superuser), WiFi tether, bb [12.07.2010]

Sorry for bumping but I have a few questions for you Beerkan.

Will this solve the problem with the green progress bar?

Also, what is this 'Root update' that's in the middle of your root tutoral? Should I download this and then put it into Odin?

My root guide shows you firstly, how to update to the latest firmware. And secondly if you want to root the phone, how to do so.

Rooting allows you to further customise your phone, remove unwanted apps, and install other features.

What version of windows are you running? Is it 64 bit? Make sure when you're running Odin that you are running it with administrator priveledges and if necessary, put it into compatability mode for windows xp
