Yeah, the default music player doesn't seem to be very loud. Maybe it's the headphones. Which do you use? For obvious reason, I like an in-live volume control.

Also, what about blue tooth headphones? Particularly for physical activity such as running.

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

I actually have multiple sets of headphones and I use em all for different purposes. Probably more than the average consumer, but definitely less than an audiophile.

First off, I find carrying my phone on me during physical activities such as running isn't practical. I know lots of people do it but I'm not one of them and don't recommend it. For this situation I have a pair of wrap-around over-the-ear headphones with the wire coiled around the neck loop, and an iPod shuffle clipped onto it. No wires dangling anywhere, no added bulk, nearly weightless, and all the controls are right there. Works out pretty good, and it's not terribly expensive (paid $50 for the shuffle, $15 for the headphones)

Next up I have another set of wrap-around over-the-ear headphones; the Motorokr S305. These are bluetooth headphones with really good audio quality and a mic as well for phone calls and whatnot. I keep these in my car so I always have them around when I need them.

Then when I need to be more discrete, like if I'm listening to music at work or trying to keep track of a sports game while I'm supposed to be doing something else, I've got a pair of Jbuds J3M in-ear earbuds. While I normally hate in-ear style headphones, these came with adjustable tips so I could actually wear them comfortably. Also have an included mic and phone button.

And lastly... a pair of Astro A30s. Although I never wear them outside the house, they do have a short wire I can use to connect them to my phone. But for now I just use em for gaming.

I have been using JVC Marshmallow in-ear earphones for a while now. They can be found at your local Wal-Mart for around $20 bucks and have great sound. They have deep bass and clear highs. I use them with my Sony Walkman MP3 player and they sound great.
