are you sure it's only 1.5? I thought that phone came with 2.1.

You can check by going to settings>about phone>software information.

I don't think there is a 2.3 update & I doubt there ever will be. There doesn't even seem to be a 2.2 update, even though the phone came out after 2.2 was launched.

In order to get anything newer onto the phone, you would have to root & flash it (which is kind of like hacking your phone), but I don't know much about it. Plenty of people do it, there's a whole forum dedicated to it called xdadevelopers.com.

    Welcome to the forums!

Your Hauwei 8110 is an innovative phone - a lot of power in a small package. In the USA, we call that phone the T-Mobile Pulse Mini (T-Mobile is the carrier name).

Here's a page with a few links to rooting your phone, if you're interesting in exploring that:

    http://androidforums.com/u8110-all-things-root/150470-how-root-huawei-u8100.html#post1381836

    Here's a possibly very good 2.1 (Eclair) rom for you - [ROM] [Huawei U8100/U8110/U8120] [Eclair] The Celestial Teapot RLS4d [2010-12-19] - xda-developers

The 2.2 (Froyo) rom is still undergoing development, from what I've read - you can check it out here, though - [ROM] [Huawei U8100] Froyo Wifi enabled version - xda-developers

Don't get discouraged if you can't get a fully working 2.2 or 2.3 for your phone.

The key to Android updating is to get the most from your personal phone.

For example: we have a Moment with 2.1 - it has an 800 MHz processor, and if we root it and mess around we can get to an almost-2.2 condition, and that's the end of the update possibilities for that phone. There is a new phone on the market we're looking at, also with an 800 MHz processor, but it comes with 2.2 and has more update possibilities.

My point is - depending on the internals of any given phone, you hit an optimum point for upgrades that those chips support and then you want to just have that way so you can devote your memory to better apps.

Hauwei has never released the details on your phone's processor and memory, so none of us can say where that endpoint is for your phone.

If the 2.2 rom gets stable, has all working features, great - if not, stick with the 2.1 stable - you'll be happier in my opinion.

None of us with 2010 phones have a guarantee for 2.3 (Gingerbread) except for the Google Nexus S.

Best luck, post back and let us know how you made out!

PS - I'm no expert, so for all I know, maybe that 2.2 rom is already stable - check out the discussions in that thread and see what they have to say about it. ;)
