I have to unroot to send back the phone for my replacement and have tried everything. The method of downloading pbooimg.zip and going into hboot didn't work. It says the main version is older update fail. I checked the md5 sum and byte size with astro file mngr and it was correct. I tried downloading a retro rom and then downloading system update but when i try to install it it says something about no signature and does not work. The post about the official verizon ruu 2.1 wont work because conflipper isn't there anymore due to legal issues or something. Am i stuck with a broken phone?

I have the RUU somewhere. I'll post it somewhere and send you a PM with the link as soon as it is done uploading.

    magic1,

If doogald's RUU doesn't work for you, I still think you have options. I'm not the best person to advise you re. this (that person would be erisuser1), but I think the advice that Andrizoid gave you concerning the jcase's misc image would fix your "main version is older" issue. However, the thread where this is used is a little scary, if you will. So, hopefully the RUU will fix you up without needing additional measures.

    Good luck.

Ill try this when i can get to a computer. I tried the method from jcase but couldn't get that misc image. The xda website wouldn't let me access it. If i remember rite it was a two part deal. I got half of it but not the attachment.

Try unrooting using the Easy Root app.

    magic1,

FYI, I followed the link in the first post of this thread http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/92096-verizons-ruu-official-2-1-droid-eris.html and clicked-on the .exe URL in the grey-box of the first post (Shipped ROMs) and this link / URL does indeed work (I'm downloading it now via Opera to my phone).

The site does indeed discuss the C&D order re. conflipper, but the download is being alowed to proceed. I'm snagging a copy like doogald did just in case...

Anyway, in case any others are wondering, you can still get the RUU.

    Hope this helps. Cheers!

I have the backup ROM of the HTC sense on my phone -untouched. I left it in it's original state when I backed it up in case I have to send it back (I'm under warranty until February)

While it still may be rooted if I installed it back on the phone, someone would have to actually investigate the phone to discover this. Is this something that Verizon would actually do or do you think they would toss the phone in the trash for a warranty exchange?

If you mean you have a Nandroid backup you took immediately after rooting, then you are close to have an un-rooted phone, but you've still got the custom recovery partition present [I've assumed you removed any traces of the su program and the SuperUser app].

If VZW decided to look, they could see that you have replaced the stock recovery with a custom one (tatamount to rooting). Will they? Do they? Hard to say...I don't believe we've ever seen a member post anything to this effect, though.

Just get your refurb "in store". Those kids behind the counter for the most part have no idea what root even is, let alone how to tell that a phone has been rooted. Just to be safe, flash Ivans official, or the rootme.zip something that looks completely stock when booting. I"ve exchanged 2 rooted eri for refurbs so far. Both in store, without any problem at all. Ethical? perhaps not , Instantly gratifing? absolutely :D

they have already sent my refurb by fedex. it came yesterday. if i could return the bad one to the store i certainly would. if all my roms and such are on my sd card i wonder what would happen if i take the card out and try and reboot the phone without it. or will it affect my new phone when i install the card in it? havnt been able to get to a computer yet because ive been out of town but im gonna try and dowload the ruu as soon as i can and give it a try!

how would i go about removing the superuser app or the su program? when i go into the manage apps setting it gives no option to uninstall it. i made a nandroid backup as soon as i rooted and i used the 1 click method.

The contents of the /sdcard won't affect how your phone boots (unless you are using apps2sd). Before you return the "bad" (already rooted) phone, you should certainly copy off any stuff you have on your old /sdcard (or just swap 'em between the original phone and your new refurb). You could also just cherry-pick the "good stuff" (i.e., your ROMs, pictures, etc.) from your old /sdcard so that your new refurb phone's /sdcard is a little "tidier" :).

    Good luck!

Did you make the Nandroid backup before you flashed rootme.zip? The rootme.zip update-type file is what put the su program and SuperUser app on your phone.

If you saved the Nandroid backup before the rootme.zip flash, then you should be able to simply restore that backup. Then, the only trace of rooting left on your phone would be the custom recovery partition.

If you did the Nandroid backup after you flashed rootme.zip, then you'll have to nuke the parts individually (easiest via Root Explorer, or EStrongs (I think this will let you), or you could do it manually via a Terminal Emulator or from the SDK's adb utility. I can find and point you to some threads that discuss (I'm a little slammed today so I can't do any detailed digging at the moment, but I can look for them tonight--unless another very helpful member replies to you first :D).

Don't forget to remove any other root-only apps you might have (drocap2, wi-fi tethering, etc.).

    Cheers!

Best i can remember i did the backup after i flashed rootme.zip. if i get root explorer or estrongs can i go ahead and delete su programs and the super user app before i unroot or will i mess something up. Im still hoping that when i can download the 2.1 ruu it will be the fix-all.

I downloaded titanium backup but it wouldn't show wireless tether or superuser app in the list of phone apps

The "Main Version is Older" problem will also prevent you from applying the RUU. You are on the right track trying to use Case's "Flash any RUU" (prior to applying the HBOOT+PB00IMG.zip), and the only thing which prevents you from pulling down XDA attachments is that you need to be registered on XDA to do that.

So, go ahead and register and pull that file down.

Note also that there was an omission in his series of adb commands - the full path to the misc .img file on the card needs to be specified when doing the "flash_image" command. If you look a couple of posts down in that thread, you will see that someone posted the correction.

That method presumes that you are doing it from a rooted ROM (er, a root shell prompt); it could also be done from adb with Amon_RA booted, but you would have to adjust the commands a little bit.

    Good luck

PS If your copy of the PB00IMG.zip had been corrupted, you would never have seen that "Main Version is Older" message; so your copy of that is OK.
