Here are a few suggestions and info:

Most android phones have Wifi, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
First I need to know what carrier you're with. There are many in your price range, and I'd be happy to help you pick one.

You can check this link and see, if some of the phones fits to you:
    Phone Finder results - GSMArena.com

    My comments to these models:
    - Samsung I5500 Galaxy 5 : not on market now, low resolution, low memory, only Android 1.6
    - LG GT540 Optimus : normal resolution, even less memory, Android 2.1
    - HTC Tattoo : low resolution, memory should be enough (not too much, but more than first two models), only Android 1.6
All phones can be rooted and loaded with new (unofficial) ROM, which updates the Android system, but memory or resolution limitations persist. Its pretty hard to find some good phone with Android with radio and 3,5mm jack, most of the phones with radio (most models from HTC) and audio jack cost 400+.
I have no informations about Samsung Corby 5 or Samsung I5800, but I think both will have low or low-nonstandard resolution, which can cause problems with some applications.

    Hi Yash,

I am assuming you are looking to purchase a phone in India. Your budget is $250, which is around INR12.5K.

I think you have the best bet in Samsung Galaxy Spica (i5700) which costs around INR 12.5, very close to your budget. It comes packed with Android 1.6 and is a great value for money. I know because I own it.

It's rumored that Spica will get upgrade to Android 2.1 but it seems very unlikely no because two months have already gone off the due date for upgrade.

You can check more on specs on gsmarena.com. It's decent and have nearly all features you would wan at INR 12.5K but you will have to compromise on FM.

But if you can wait for a month or so, Galaxy 3 from Samsung is coming up which will have Android 2.1 pre-installed and some improvement in features also. my guess on price is anywhere between INR 12K to 15K, but can't be sure. It has almost same features as that of Spica, from Camera to screen size and type, etc but has increased memory, which was much needed on Spica too, and is a frustrating factor for Spica.

You can check more on this on this website, theandroidsoul.com or talk to me at my twitter account @itskapil.

By the way, where in India you are from.

In my choice Samsung I5500 is fit. I agree with low resolution but confused in Low memory and android 1.6 ..:(

Means 170MB internal Memory and 256MB RAM is not enough for Android?

I have seen Internal memory 170MB on gsmarena.com and Android 2.1 Eclair ! Is that specification is wrong? Why they publish wrong Specification?

In next website (please check Link)there is 256 MB RAM. Is this Ram is not enough for Android??

Can you tell me detail about low resolution and cause problem with some application, please
because i am totally new for android .
    Thanks very much:)

If you are willing to go up to $350, then you should take a good look at the Acer Liquid A1.

The plastic build could feel cheap at times but in terms of bang for buck, nothing comes close imo. Had it for 2 months and absolutely love it:
    -768MHz underclocked/undervolted Snapdragon processor
-512 megs of rom (plus 2GB SDCard included), 256 megs of ram (which I have found to be enough on both counts for the most part)
-900/1900/2100 MHz 3G bands (no clue which ones your carrier uses)
    -WiFi
-3.5mm headset jack but no FM radio
-3.5" LCD screen with 800x480 WVGA resolution
-Currently on Android 1.6, official update to 2.1 coming in July. There is a Liquid E out which has 2.1 but it is more expensive. Liquid E also has 512 megs of ram.

Has a very strong development/hacking community (I am running an Android 2.1 rom on mine which is based on a Eclair leak by Acer).

If you are willing to root (voids warranty but gives you administrative privileges, similar to jailbreak on iPhone):
-Does not have good sound quality but if you use a rom based on the upcoming Acer Stream-based custom rom (which I am using), it would include Dolby Mobile equalizer which improves sound quality (through headphones) dramatically. Stream based rom also improves the camcorder to 480p resolution.
-There is a FroYo based rom out there but currently in alpha stage and has many bugs. Once the official

If it is that important, you should consider taking a strong look at the HTC Wildfire.

Has 2.1 with HTC Sense. HTC has already said that all phones released in 2010 will receive a 2.2 update during the second half of 2010.

Specs are decent (not mindblowing or anything). Seems like a good mid-range entry-level smartphone. And it looks quite beautiful imo. Has the FM radio, has the Dolby Mobile equalizer, 3.5" headset jack, 3G/WiFi.

Same price range as my Liquid but I am sure with HTC quality, you get what you pay for.

Since sound quality is important for you, whichever phone you buy, make sure it has a built in equalizer.

Android does not have one and this is not something you can download (needs to be built into the system files I think). If it has something like Dolby Mobile, it would be ideal for you (many LG/HTC phones have Dolby. Upcoming Acer Stream will have it too. I know nothing about Samsung phones so this would require research on your part).

    Hi Yash,
256 MB RAM shouldn't be problem, I have seen 170MB on gsmarena and one more czech forum, maybe this was wrong or already "free" user memory (some 100MB are occupied by system). I don't know how is it exactly, we have to wait for release.
Most programs will work with QVGA (240x320), because it's becoming popular on lowcost Android phones. QVGA stretching is part of 1.6 SDK and applications which are still developed support this resolution. Just some games or not-anymore-devoloped (ca. 1 year not developed) applications will not run on this resolution and you will not see them on Market. 98% of official applications will work, with scaling or special QVGA edition, but some unofficial applications which are not hosted on Market (from Googlecode or another internet sources, but this is minority) might not work.

Yeah my phone has 256 megs of ram and I usually have 60-70 megs of free memory and I have 7 homescreens, all of them have widgets, some with multiple widgets. Android itself is a highly effective task manager as it is Linux based.

Maybe you can check Vodafone 845, in my country its sold about 180$. The only disadvantage is lack of EDGE, so you need acces to 3G or Wi-Fi, becauce GPRS is useless.
