Root Help me out please!

Im rather computer-savvy, but need some help with my android. After months of researching temp-rooting and perm-rooting, I still cant find any method that may be simple enough for me to achieve.
If anyone could point me in the right direction for any temp/perm rooting tutorials for an EVO Shift 4G with Android v2.3.3 and HTC Sense 2.1 that'd be great.
One more question...
Is there a perm-root mehtod where you could still unroot your phone if you wanted to?

There is some info there that will help you. Barberboy has had to temp root twice now, so he may be our resident expert. Read the thread (skip the nonsense lol) and post in their if you need some help....

Gingerbread cannot be permanently rooted as of right now, so all you can do is temp root. And if you need to unroot, just reboot and it will get rid of root for you.

I'm not too savvy either. Jump right in, as long as you can follow directions and have basic commands on the pc down, you can do it. The tutorials sometimes make rooting look worse than it is.

That XDA tutorial...it talks about my ADB folder/ADB dierctory...what exactly is my ADB folder/directory? I'd ask on there, but dont feel like joining another forums site for a simple question

got past that, now, after i navigate to the adb folder in cmd, and run the first command, i get "error:device not found" im sure thats because of something i dont have installed...ive got the SDK, HTC Sync...dont know what im missing...

Drivers are prob not right... Although HTC sync should have installed the correct ones for you

try uninstalling the HTC sync that happen ed to me once and somebody suggested it to me

when I launch "adb push fre3vo /data/local/tmp/" I get " failed to copy: read only file system "

Is your usb debugging enabled? Your sd card mounted?

one other thing your phone has to be connected to your pc on "charge only"

debugging is on, sd card is in, and its on charge only
uninstalled htc-sync, nada
re-installed a newer version, nada
having permission issues with every adb command!
either its a read only file system or i dont have permission, nothins workin.
ugh. any help is greatly appreciated.

I had an issue with adb it kept giving me these not a command bs and it was because I didnt have my sdk set up properly and I wasn't navigating to the folder the sdk was in from the cmd prompt. I think I'm in the ball park here,anybody feel free to correct me here

its definitely the right directory...tried all the commands in the thread you posted, all of them got the same...system denied...ill post some screenies later just so you guys dont think im just messing with you...this is an actual problem! and an actual pain in my ass!

WELL.
After hours of frustration, I have finally temp-rooted my phone. I uninstalled everything (Android SDK, JDK AND I hard reset my phone) and re-installed all of it, and success!
Thank you so much guys for helping me out.
Now that my phone is temp-rooted...what are some cool things i can do with it?!
