I have an LG Optimus S phone that froze up. I turned it off, pulled out out the battery and then turned it back on. The phone brought up a screen that says:
    Android System recovery. <3e>
Android system Recovery utility and gives me the following choices:
    reboot system now
    apply sdcard:update.zip
    wipe data/factory reset
    wipe cache partition

I've rebooted 2-3 times already and I come right back to this screen. Tthere is data I need that only resides in the phone- it is not backed up on the google.
    Please help?

Have you tried just selecting 'reboot system now"
It will boot into your system.
If not, you might have to flash the S firmware in emergency mode.
