I've noticed that I can't get rid of the phandroid icon in my notifications unless I force close the app. Also, the phandroid app continues to run and does not close when you back out, again, unless you force close. Any suggestions other than uninstalling the app and accessing via the web?

I've spliced this topic out of the S4 ota thread and created it's own topic in the Phandroid applications forum so that the developer can see your support question.

Was wondering where my post went! Thought you guys got all Big Brother on me. Thanks! But don't you think it would get more visibility in the s4 forum as that is the phone that received the update? Unfortunately, now s4 users, who tend to offer excellent help, won't readily see my post.

The reason it's better here is that if the Verizon S4 update did break something, this will allow the developer to see that fact and work on a fix/update.

How do I turn off background services?

If you tap the 3 dot option button on the screen in the upper right corner of the app, and then hit settings, it should be the 3rd or 4th option from the top.

I'm confused. I thought I knew every setting this phone had to offer but am having trouble with your instructions. When you say "three dot option" in the app, what do you mean? My issue is with this app, Phandroid (not the news site), and there is no three dot option.
If you mean in settings, the three dot option in the upper right hand corner brings me to more settings. There is no "background services" there to unselect. I know I've seen the "background services " option but cannot find it.
Maybe I'm not conveying my problem properly. I cannot get rid of the Phandroid icon in my notification bar unless I force close. The app itself doesn't stop running unless I force close. This has never happened until this mornings update and I've been accessing Phandroid via the app for at least a couple years.

If it helps, I think I found the problem but cannot solve it. The auto sync news option is selected under "preferences". I unchecked, still had the icon in my notification bar. I then went to the Application Manager and liked at "Running" and stopped news sync. The icon disappeared and didn't show up after that when I opened and closed the Phandroid... all good I thought.
Then I restarted my phone and the auto sync news option was turned back on, even though I turned it off before restarting.
Please fix this... I don't care about the news, I use the Phandroid app because it makes using the forums easier while on a mobile device.

Now I see the confusion. As fas as I can tell we are talking about three different apps. "Android news by Phandroid", "Phandroid", and the one you recommended, "Android Forums". I have never downloaded the news app, I've been using "Phandroid" for years, which is the one causing the issue. I will uninstall "Phandroid" and try "Android Forums", which I didn't know existed until now.

Yeah, I liked it too, but was plagued by the same issues you were having after you updated.

Hopefully the newer app will be to your liking. :)
