I recently rooted my droid and when trying to load the bugless beast rom it says signature verification failed. I searched the forum for an answer and all i could come up with was rename it to update. Ive tried many failed attempts and the bugless beauty rom with the same results. If any one root guru could lend a helping hand to a fellow droidhead I would be much appreciative

I just did the same thing today. From my research it looks like you need to load SPRecovery, which seems to be much harder then simply rooting the Droid. I think it is over my head, and I am not sure if I want to proceed.

Not sure what the point is of having a rooted Droid without doing SPRecovery so a ROM can be loaded. I am in limbo right now and also not sure where to go from here.

You do want SPRecovery before you do any real modications to your system, because you'll need the full system backup that nandroid provides. I didn't start any of this until Friday afternoon, and I've now updated my ROM several times, overclocked to 1Ghz and deleted certain system files I didn't want. Start here, it's a really good guide for noobs like us:Custom Recovery Image - Root Your Droid.

That is the list of instructions I was following. I had a problem just getting the required flash image and that made me think I was over my head. Was this a flash image a file that was to be downloaded from the hyperlink (did not work for me) or am I totally off base? Thanks

That link takes you to a page that links to sholes for flash_image

The download link for flash_image appears to be broken. Any mirrors? Does anybody have the file?

    Thanks!

There are many diferent ways to accomplish this and everybody has their prefered method. The following is mine. I have done this on several different occasions for myself and helping others BUT I am in no way responsible for any harm done to your phone.

This can be accomplished with Droid Root Helper on the device itself with no need for adb or a PC. Search for it in the market. I purchased the PRO version to support crotalusfreak, but the free version will work fine. Install DRH then hit MENU and select GET THE TOOLS. Let the file download, unzip and place the TOOLS folder on the root of the sdcard. Then open open DRH and make the following selections,

-Mount System (grant permission. If it FC's, reopen and mount again)
    -Install BusyBox
    -Install Flash_Image
    -Rename Recovery-from-Boot.P
    -Flash 99.2b Recovery
    -Mount System Read Only (unmounts)
    -Sync
    -Reboot Recovery

Once it boots into recovery verify that you now have SPRecovery patched by SirPsychoS (0.99.2b) Then you can continue making a Nadroid backup as instructed in the threads you are following.

    Cheers!

Droidroothelper (free) installs 99.1b while droidrootpro (2.50) installs 99.2b.

Once you have sprecovery (even with 99.1b) reboot into recovery (hold the x key while turning on) and make a backup asap! To get the rom you have to download it (either as an update.zip or a nandroid backup) and install from the recovery menu.

All this does is install busybox, flash recovery to system/bin and update the recovery to 0.99.2b. Once you have installed the most recent recovery using the steps above you are able to create your Nandroid backup and then start flashing roms by following the thread directions for the rom you wish to flash.

Thanks to ShadeMar for the 99.1 -99.2 clarification. If you use the free version and still need to update to 0.99.2b then go to the market and download Android Terminal Emulator by Jack Palevich. Then download the 0.99.2b.img recovery image from Sholes.info and place it on the ROOT of the sdcard. Open Terminal Emulator and enter the following commands,

    su
    flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery-0.99.2b.img
    reboot recovery

Once booted to recovery you should now see the 99.2b.

To create a backup, boot to recovery and select BACKUP/RESTORE then select ADVANCED NANDROID BACKUP and check every item (boot, cache, data, misc, recovery, system) then select PERFORM BACKUP.

The backup will be saved in the Nandroid folder on your sdcard. Make a copy and keep it someplace safe backed up on your PC or where ever.

As far as 99.1 vs 99.2 Pete does not specify a required recovery BUT some roms like Sholes require ,no if ands of buts about it, REQUIRE 99.2b. Your best just to update to 0.99.2b. Better safe than sorry and its really easy to push .99.2b with a Terminal Emulator or ADB if your PC is set up for it.

hey they doing a wonderful jobs, they deserve it. If i'm paying 30 bucks a month for the data plan and couple of hundreds on the phone, few bucks to support the dev not going to kill my wallet. so what if i don't eat a whopper for a day to get the money back ^_^ I can't imagine the times the devs put into what they doing, once again thanks guys!
