So I've had my Hero shortly after it first came out. Thank God I haven't had the problems that most have had, though I have had a few. But now I'm trying to decide if I should switch to an Evo. Besides the internet speeds, is it worth making the change or should I wait to see what Android phone Sprint puts out next? I usually change phones quite frequently as I need a new toy to play with but I've been pretty happy with the Hero. So being the Hero and Evo are Android phones, isn't it pretty much the same thing except for the fact that the Evo is 4G and also it's size makes it useful for a serving tray? Your comments will really help.
    Thanks.

It is hard to tell someone to leave a phone they are happy with, but I also had the Hero and switched to the Evo. I liked the bigger screen, easier to type on. I do not regret making the change at all...in fact I am happier everyday about it. I have had none of the issues that were talked about on here.

Ditto for me. I had a happily rooted Hero, which has been passed on to my son. I love the Evo.

No it's not. Ditch the Hero.

I too had the Hero. Just no comparison. Evo just so much better in every way.

I loved my Hero as well but I had no idea how laggy it really was until I got the Evo. Things open up immediately, on the same 3G webpages just open faster, and on WiFi it smokes the Hero on webpages and downloads. I mean if you aren't in a particular rush the Samsung Epic should be out in a few months (maybe sooner, not really paying attention) with similar specs and a hardware keyboard so you can wait and see how that turns out but I have zero regrets with my purchase

I was frustrated with my Hero's lag. No complaint with the Evo.

Former Hero owner here (which I gave to my son)...the Evo is a huge step up in terms of speed and well, everything. Go for it!

I too had a hero, trust me the processor in the EVO alone makes it worth the switch. "Serving tray?" haha.... Go put the phone in your hand and use it. You will not want to go back to a smaller screen. Its absolutely awesome.

I, too, went from the Hero to the Evo. I passed the Hero down to my daughter and everytime I need to do something with her phone I am soooooo glad I have the Evo. You couldn't pay me to go back to the Hero...I loved it when I had it, but the Evo is so much better!

I moved from a Hero and couldnt imagine moving back. I moved for two reasons: speed and screen.

The phone is massive but you quickly get used to it and the Hero's screen just looks, well, like a toy. And the keyboard is hard to type on when you have gotten used to a keyboard on a 4.3" screen. I also didnt think the Hero was slow until I got the Evo. The CPU makes a big difference. Even on 3g browsing is still considerably faster.

I had the hero for 6 months and sold it to get the Evo. I loooove the Evo, but after the novelty wears off, its not THAT much better than the hero. If I could go back, I'd hold on to the hero and get the next HTC successor that comes out. My opinion however is such because I'm not a premiere member so I can only upgrade once every 2 years, if I could upgrade every year I'd have no regrets with the evo.

I had a Hero as well, it was only about 4 months old when I got my EVO.

It is definitely a major upgrade, 2.1 killed my hero and even when I rooted and tried some custom ROMS, I couldn't get it to perform.

I love my EVO, it is definitely worth getting IMO. Mine has a few issues with the screen and light leakage...I see an insurance turn in soon...but I'm happy with it.

IMO, get it, root it, you'll love it.

i loved my hero. it was really great. but i wanted a phone that i could video chat with my nephews on the go. i love my evo and wouldn't even think of looking back.

i will tell you what i don't miss about the hero: the look, the physical buttons, the small screen (in comparison to the evo of course), the lagginess, the dust under my screen (although who knows what will happen with my evo screen).

what i miss about my hero: the incredibly unscratchable screen, the evo needs a screen protector (trust me on this). i miss having a rooted phone. i have a mac and since the update have no root method available unless i use someone elses pc. argh.

The larger screen and lack of lag make it worth it IMO.

Purchased the Hero on Pre Order from Best Buy, and I've had the Evo since release day. Haven't had any problems with it.

I love my Hero, I have the EVO now and it is such a pain, the phone is way too fast, the internet is way too fast, and there is no lag at all, plus I think that it has way too much ram, not to mention it is way too easy to type on the EVO, and the screen? forget about it! I really hate it...I want my Hero back!

Damn I wish I would of seen your reply before I listened to everyone else's advice and went out and bought one. Lol. Yep, all your advice was GREAT. Didn't see one negative comment. So I called all over town trying to find one. Finaly found it and so far really liking it. Downloaded Fring but no one to try it with :(. Lol. The search button is getting on my nerves cuz I keep touching it as I'm typing this. But I guess its just a matter of getting use to the feel. But I really wanna thank everyone who replied as you see your comments really helped out.

I went from a WM device to a Hero. I had my Hero less then 2 months before the EVO launched. I liked the Android OS so much on my Hero that i had no problems making the decision to get an EVO and i have not looked back. I kept my Hero just as a back up in case i loose, break, or something bad happens to it.
If the price is only 50 bucks more then i think i would go for it.

Me personally, Hero to an Evo was a good decision.

For everyone saying the Hero lags, the lag only happens when it's loading something...like an app or a web page. Once it's loaded though, it's a lot smoother than the EVO because it doesn't have the 30FPS cap. I'm not sure exactly what rate it runs at (I doubt the Hero can reach 60 FPS), but it's definately a smoother experience with the Hero. You should try the EVO in stores to see if the jerkiness annoys you or not. It's definately much faster at doing everything though...it just doesn't do it as "elegant".

    The Evo's not $50 extra, it's $50 plus $10/month.
