ok, so ive been thinking about getting the hero on orange, ive come from the htc hd. Am i doing the right thing, i need some good reasons to come across. Might sound a little bit simple but i tend to really look into things first, and from what i can see the hero does not match up to the iphone in to many ways. I just wish there was another new windows phone out there. should i come across. If this thread has already been delt with then i do apoligize, but i am new to the forum !!!!

I realize that the iPhone is the defacto standard among smartphones for comparison. But, when you say "...from what i can see the hero does not match up to the iphone in to many ways," I am very surprised to read that.

Just off of the top of my head...
The iPhone doesn't have a decent camera
Didn't do MMS until Friday of last week
    Has no removable battery
    Cannot background applications
    Has no expandable/removable storage
    ...and tons more.

Man i hate the iphone,i to came from a winmo device and must say its all down to preference really,(btw i like windows mobile there i said it!)
All i can say for the hero is its soo smooth....like silky smooth, apps are easy to come by and for the most part free(unlike winmo)so i suppose it all depends on what you use your phone for,if you use all the features on winmo then it might not be the phone for you,but if like me you like to mess around with free apps, games, etc, etc then get the hero as its seriously underated!:)

To expand on JoeC's comment. The iPhone is not customizable while the Hero is.
You can truly make it fit your life style by changing what the display shows. While with the iPhone you are stuck with icons.
The Hero also has an expandable memory. You can add up to 32gb.
So lets say you are a programmer, you can have a rooted Hero with 32gbs worth of applications and another 32 gbs for music or pics.
The Sense contact integration is pretty awesome. When someone calls you, you get to see their latest (twitter, Facebook or myspace) update.
Mind you, it doesn't have the processing power for an iPhone 3GS, but everything else is up to par.

You must take time and research more than just the Branding. Just like when ever anyone who doesn't know much about technology wants an MP3 player, they always call them iPods. No matter if its a Zune, Sandisk, Sony or Creative, it always becomes an iPod. And for that I truly have to hand it to Apples marketing team, but thats all it is marketing. Apple has such a strangle hold on the iPhone I found it hard to even enjoy it. Its like buying a car, but having the dealer tell me I can't put certain things in the trunk and I can only hang their brand of air freshener from my rear view mirror. I find that many people are just so in love with the fact of being able to see the Apple Logo printed on whatever they are using that they are willing to sacrifice functionality for it. The growing trend seems to me that the iPhone seems like the greatest thing ever for people who don't truly understand technology.

P.S. - *cough* Dropped calls *cough*...*cough* EDGE *cough*
