Hey, I'm looking into getting an Android based phone to replace my Sony Ericsson Satio (because I just can't get along with it!)
So I'm doing a little research into what else it out there... and I'm hoping Android would be a good platform to go with. The only problem I have though is that I used to have an Iphone, so the benchmark is set quite high.

Im hoping someone will give me an unbiased answer as to whether they feel an Android based phone will suit me well or whether I should look to go back to an iPhone...

What I use my phone for:

    • Mad facebook user, so a good facebook App is essential
    • Easy to use email client
    • The music player has to be easy to use (what Media player do you sync an android phone with? (Windows Media Player, iTunes?)
    • Are there lots of Applications in the Android market?
If anyone can help me/help convince me, i'd really appreciate it.
    Many thanks in advance.
    James

Thanks for the info so far, it looks like I do need one but still want to do a little more research before making the plunge.

Going back to the music player and software for syncing etc.
Does google have its own media player that I would replace iTunes with?

The only reason I ask is that the 'Media Go' software that Sony Ericsson uses is absolutly useless as it searches for songs that are else where on the PC, then puts them into its library and then you sync your phone with the library. So everytime you sync it 1st has to search and update before it updates your phone - its very odd!

Also about the OS itself, on http://www.gsmarena.com it says that the HTC Hero is running on Android OS, v1.5, and say the Motorola Milestone(Droid in the US) (even though its not out yet in the UK) will be running on Androis OS, v2.0

Does this mean that different phones are on different versions of the Android operating system, or can all Android phones be updated to the same version of the OS... basicall what im asking is if I got the HTC Hero will I be able to update the OS to version 2.0? If so, is there a utility software that makes this a simple process to do?

I apologise in advance if you can't make any sense out of that!
    Thanks
