    1. Is it true that HTC will not update the OS? IE it comes with 2.1 but you cannot get 2.2? - if so ; why? and isn't that nuts?

    2. I have read the bars are low , poor radio - which shocks me at VZW.

Read some more! 2.2 is not out that I know of. Check out the Official thread.. It will go in great depth regarding your #2 question.

It is definitely a fact that htc is slow at updating.. Due to the sense ui. That being said 2.1 is pretty well developed IMO. Additionally the goog plans to start doing core updates through the market starting with 2.2 (rumored). Plus I see a fairly fast update with the known issue about the I internal memory.

As far as the bars, that is a glitch. Same thing happened with the eris. The actual signal strength and call quality should be pretty good according to most reviews.

The catch: I'm guessing that this phone is going to be pretty popular and actually getting one will not be easy. You're a kittle late to the party IMO but I'd say go for it. And g4tv just rated it a 5/5. Probably the first time they've ever done that without it being an apple smartphone!

Hmmm - not being able to update the OS is a killer for me - not sure I can get this now; makes no sense whatsoever.

That's HTC not caring about Android OS; they just wanna sell units.

I think you will be able to get 2.2 easier than 1.6 to 2.0 because thats a bigger update so more things can go wrong with sense. Just my thoughts though.

You can always root and update yourself. This should really not deter you. If you get something else, you're just gonna kick yourself for not getting this in the end.

I can understand the frustration there, but is it really a deal breaker? It's not for me.

People its not that you can't update the OS, its just that the Nexus One will get updates sooner than every other android phone as it comes directly from google, and Verizon isn't supporting the N1 anyway. The Inc will undoubtedly be able to upgrade so please don't let this fallacy deter your purchase of this fantastic device.

Actually you WILL be able to get updates, just like any other Android device (post 1.5). The only difference between the Incredible, and say, the N1, is that there is an additional GUI on top of vanilla Android. With this, Google/HTC thus must come up with a reasonable update that includes this GUI, whereas vanilla Android has none, and Google can go about their business much easier. To say that you will NOT be able to update is a bit of a stretch. The updates will just take longer compared to pure Google experience devices. I don't know where you got the whole "HTC does not care about Android OS" thing from, but please refrain from blurting misinformed opinions.

I'm getting 1-2 bars at work where all of my other phones were a solid five bars.

Since the phone and data are working fine, I'm not too worried.

::Dips feet into hot tub slowly::

Hey guys.. well here is my opinion. It might piss you off that he said that - but obviously a company (especially in today's economy) is highly profit driven. HOWEVER - I do NOT believe it is their fault. It is Verizon's fault too.

So in theory, if they don't give the Eris users 2.1, then less savy techies will upgrade to the Incredible.

The techies will simply upgrade it themselves.

So yes, you CAN upgrade - but you won't get the 'official' Verizon upgrade. You will have to read a techy video to learn how to do it.

STILL - 2.2 or whatever it may be won't be out for a while. If you are going to start making OS/Hardware updates your reason for not getting a phone, then you might as well get the cheapest ugliest phone possible.

Why? We are in an era where technology is upgrading so fast that if you refuse to purchase something because it is going to be outdated, then you might as well not buy anything cool at all.

Because us Incredibles are going to be outdated in less than a year. So will the phone that supersedes that.

So stop being so anally paranoid, get a fricken cool phone, and upgrade in 20 months.

i.e. get the incredible and suck it up that maybe for a month you might not have the new OS. Jesus.

From what I understand, OTA updates are thru Google and developed by Google (in partnership with HTC for Sense devices). I don't think VZW has much of a hand in this. Like I said, the Incredible WILL get updated soon or later. The only difference would be the updates won't come as fast as pure Google experience phones, where Google doesn't need to worry about external elements on their OS.

If that's a killer for you to umm... not be able to update the OS until later, then that was a quick goodbye.
