hi-fi wont connect to my x8

Hey just looking for a bit of help. I recently bought an xperia x8 and I am trying to connect it to my hi-fi using the usb charger cable but it wont read it. I have done this with other sony ericssons before but now it will not work. Any help will be appreciated.

When you connect the phone to anything via usb, wait a few seconds for it to connect, then drag down the notification bar and select disk drive mode.
