Hickups, Glitches & Crashes

    I got my droid a few days ago from Best Buy. Since then I've been having a few problems. Some programs will freeze or crash. Considering the open source nature of the OS and software which is ran on lots of different hardware on different OS versions, I kinda expected a bit of this. I had a Nokia n810 running Maemo at one point and it suffered from the same problems. Not everything is going to be compatible, especially on a new device.

    Sometimes though programs will cause the whole phone to crash, which I can only turn on again after removing the battery for a few seconds. There have been a few occasions where the default software, like the phone and maps caused the droid to shut down (requiring a battery removal). I guess this could maybe be attributed to a hickup in 3rd party software running in the background. I've also taken it off the charger and realized it was shut down. It kinda seems like this is happening too much. I shouldn't have to take the battery out 7 or 8 times in the first couple days I've had my phone. Do you guys think I should take it back and swap it for a different droid? Is anyone else having problems like these?

    I came from a non-smart phone, so maybe with complexity comes this type of thing and I just have to weed out what software I need to avoid so things will run smoothly.

    Some people have had the crash/freeze problems and exchanging the droid took care of it for them.

    Before exchanging it, I'd try a factory reset and just try the apps that are known to work on the Droid. We've got a sticky at the top with a good list.

    I am having the same problem. Have had to remove battery just twice. Droid shut completly down on mee this morning. Befor that I could not receive e-mails.

    ...will automagically return to the phone, according to a forum post elsewhere. The user was impressed after a hard reset to find all contacts and apps restored. Just had to set up some shortcuts.

    I haven't had that many battery pulls, got the Droid on launch day and have had to do a battery pull maybe 3 times.

    I DID have an issue with the pattern unlock screen the first day where it would not unlock the phone, had to do a complete wipe (Verizon customer service/tecj support was awesome!) and everything came right back after I re-synced my Google account. However, some of my contacts did come back screwed up and not all synced back from my account.....but mostly ones I don't use. My Google contacts are kind of a mess anyway because I never clean it up. LOL

    As Les said, you should still have access to them and they will re-download. If you have an app that is not compatible with the Droid, then if you are in the return time limit (I think 24 hours), uninstall and your money will be refunded.
