I've had a number of tablets, from the vaunted iPad, to the Nexus 7. I used to think that a 10" tablet was the only way to go; as I really like to read news and watch video on various apps, as well as stream movies. Now having owned a Nexus 7 for several months I believe 7" size is the perfect size. You need something that can be held in one hand for portability. I am a new "technology" fan, and when the Hisense Sero 7 Pro was announced recently, while I didn't need it at all, I wanted it; and at the price of $149 why wait or debate whether the OS will be updated in the future. Heck, I've got a Samsung S2 skyrocket , and jellybean 4.1.2 is all that's available. This "no name" tablet has 4.2.1, so go figure! I've run various speed tests on it, and it is extremely close in speed to the Nexus 7. So close that they seem the same, and the display is beautiful. There are 2 "must haves" for me in any tablet, speed and great graphics. I wouldn't take one if it was free if it didn't have both of those two things, and this Hisense tablet definitely has both. I guess if I was into games, the 8 GB of onboard storage would be limiting, but the only thing really taking up space on my other tablets was music files and you can put those on a SD card, or just use Google Music. I really think this latter product is the future in music, but I guess if you're away from WiFi a file is needed. I also like the back camera, the Nexus 7 needs that, and I hear their next model will have it. 7" is small enough to carry around and take pictures, where a 10" is really too big. Bottom Line...good product, good value.

WELCOME TO ANDROID FORUMS Tadb123!

Your tablet experiences sounds identical to mine,as I previously had a DROID XYBOARD 10.1". A VERY NICE tablet, but, for my uses,I found the size to be a bit too much, although I have to admit,it is arguably the best display I've seen on any device, desktop or portable,to date.

As you mentioned on being current w/updates,as long as your're on ANDROID 4.1 or above w/any device you should be good to go,as this is what provides the all-desirable PROJECT BUTTER experience, which the XYBOARD was sorely lacking & will never see the light of day.

The HISENSE does everything quite well & any shortcomings w/on-board storage can be solved through rooting/ROMS,which activity is alive & well @ XDA-DEVELOPERS website.

Again,THX for posting your review & WELCOME!

I have been posting my comments over in the general tablet section waiting for this forum to be added. Like I said over there I was using a nexus 7 before I broke the screen on it. Before that I had a Ipad and gave it to my wife and grand daughter. Of the 3 tablets I like this sero 7 the best I didn't think I needed another camera but the one on the sero has come in handy. Unlike the nexus this sero came with a camera app on it. The only apps on it and Google apps plus Walmart, Sams club and vudu. Vudu can't be uninstalled. To fix the nexus would have cost me $171 dollars so I bought the sero instead. If you're looking for a good tablet this is the one to buy.

Bought this sero7 at Walmart about 6hours ago and so far I am quite pleased. The quality and 'feel' of the tablet is very good - on a par with the nexus 7. Screen resolution is excellent and performance is snappy. Sensors all work well and sound seems good.
If I had to find something to complain about, it would be that the screen is a fingerprint magnet. Small price!
Would not hesitate to reccomend to a friend.

Just FYI... some background.. I have had OG Droid. EVO 4G, Captivate, Gnex, and Nexus 4. For tablets i have TF101 and Nexus 7 (girlfriends). All rooted, most running custom roms.

Had mine for a week. I gotta say this little machine performs just as good if not better than the Nexus 7. Benchmarks are a bit higher, but i still consider them the same as far as how good they perform.

The screen quality and clarity inside its great.
    Speakers are loud!!
Performance is just as Nexus 7
    HDMI out
MicroSD support (i have a 64Gb card in it)
Rear camera ( i really dont care, i dont use it but only for bar code scanning)
    $15 protection plan
Easy to root!! One click thanks to xboxexpert
USB OTG for mouse, keyboards, etc
    Cheap!! (great as gift)

The back get hot (but then again im using it to play ingress for hours)(GPS + data constant) Under normal use inside its fine.
Screen has a "mirror" glare on it under direct sunlight. Wish it was less
Not Gorilla Glass (havent scratched it, but no mention of it anywhere)
Battery life its on par to what Manufacturer says, not bad, not greatest (~10hrs)
No USB OTG for usb mass storage (not until some customer kernel allows it)
    Annoying screenshot button in navbar
    No Multi-user support

Thanks for the great information in this new thread! My son is about to buy our household's first tablet, and he has been eyeing the Nexus 7. However, he would like a rear-facing camera. Looks like the Hisense Sero Pro might be just what he needs! (I'm sure I'll be back soon!)

It's a nice tablet.I concur w/the in-depth review preceding your post, although I find the cons to be minor & shouldn't deter you from getting this tablet.

    Admittedly,the screen is a fingerprint magnet,more so than other touchscreen devices I've owned,but,then again,not a dealbreaker,it is a TOUCHSCREEN DEVICE .............................. :D

Anyway, accessories for this device are few & far between, practically non-exixtent,except for here:

Hisense Sero 7 Cases by i-Blason

Note that there are two different models, the LT,& the PRO,& this screen protector should take care of the fingerprints & glare to a measurable degree:

Bought mine the day they came out. Had no fore knowledge of it at all seen something by pure chance looking on the web to get a Nexus 7. My wife has a Nexus and I like it, but decided to take a chance on the Sero 7 Pro. With it being brand new, obviously no reviews, so I rolled the dice. Wow, I must say I am glad I did!! Great performance, great screen, HDMI out and micro sdcard expansion. I have had no issues with mine at all, it's rooted with xboxexpert's ROM from xda developer's and I love it. Probably one of the best $149.00 purchases I have ever made.

My son and I visited Walmart today and spent $150 that he had saved. No issues with our unit yet. The Sero 7 Pro may be the best bargain in the Android world! While at Walmart we picked up a generic case for 7" tablets. I intended to order the i-Blason case mentioned above, but we may stick with the basic one for now. It cost $25, has a zippered closure, and includes a stand feature for easy viewing of movies. The next step is to pick up a microSD card.

Now that my son has gone to bed I can finally play with -- I mean become more familiar with -- this great tablet!

    Totally love this tablet.
I owned a Nexus 7 but got rid of it because of the storage thing.
This one hits the mark! So much so that I bought one for the wife as her first tablet and she loves it too!

Mine is rooted and I have Apex Launcher running in Tablet UI mode on both of them.

We got the i-Blason cases in black and purple as well.

    Great little tablet.

New owner of this tablet and beginner in android world.
I am french and travelled to US last week. I planned to buy a Nexus because it is much cheaper in US than in France, the seller advised me to buy the Hisense instead of the Nexus.
For the moment, I can tell that I am not disappointed at all. For the price, I can not be happier :)
I will see in the duration whether it was a good deal or not.
I have an Ipad for years now and I never had any trouble or issue.
I hope it will be the same.

So far so good... Rooted and using new ROM. Hard to imagine such a great tool at only $150. Makes me wonder what next great thing is on the horizon.

Rooted and awesome. Can't get any of the Apps2SD apps to work. I have read that it can work on a rooted Jellybean machine but I tried several and couldn't get it to work. Maybe someone has the step by step means to make it work and could post it here. Other than that the tablet is great.

Personally I love it very responsive fast and other than a few minor issues such as the sd card functionality and a few other problems it is perfect.

Bought the Sero 7 a few days ago from local Wal-Mart (actually bought 2). Was looking for a new bargain-priced tablet to replace my aging Coby Kyros. I was about to go with the Nexus 7 (on sale with a case for $230) but after reading several reviews/previews on the Sero 7, I decided to give it a shot.

    Couldn't be happier!

It is a very nice tablet right out of the box, with very few limitations put on the Android 4.2.1 OS. I really don't use a tablet for much more than web-surfing and checking my crypto-currency accounts/trades so don't really require much. In fact, I really have no reason to bother with rooting the Sero 7... Of course, I rooted it anyway. After 2 years of using the Kyros, this thing is incredible!

7" is the perfect tablet size for mobility and convenience. Sero 7 has a great look and feel, plus the "grippy" rubber-like coating eases my concerns of dropping it.

Tegra 3 processor is fast...and I mean really fast! Especially so compared to my previous 7" tablet. This tablet was also much easier to root than my previous one.

I have more positive things to put here, but I'll reserve the space for later, after I've spent more time with it.

The biggest problem I've noticed with this tablet is that the digitizer acts up sometimes when trying to use it while it's plugged into a wall-socket USB port. Not really sure what's the issue, but the touch sensitivity is way off at times with the USB plugged in.

The only other thing I would change if possible is the internal storage limit of 8GB. This definitely isn't a deal breaker for me. I would much rather have the option to add external SD cards than to have an internal limit and no SD slot. Still, it would be nice to have 32GB internal storage + external storage via SD slot.

My first tablet. Wanted the nexus 7 for a long time but something kept holding me back. From what I can tell this a nexus 7 clone with extras and a price tag of 150. Its a great tablet. Dead trigger looks sweet on this not gonna lie.

I am considering buying a Sero 7 Pro as my first tablet. I'm hoping someone with firsthand experience with a 7 Pro can answer a couple of basic ??s for me so I know if it will work for me or not. My main reason for getting a tablet is to become more productive professionally, though of course it would be for personal use as well. The main applications I would use the tablet for are field GIS-type work (i.e. Google Earth) and email. Here are my specific questions:
With Google Earth, can you import a Myplaces file from another source?
Does it handle large Myplaces files well?
