Tap to open the Application tab. Press the Menu key and select Edit. Press right or left on the 4-way navigation key or swipe left or right with your finger to move to a page with free space. Tap and hold the icon you wish to replace from the top row and drag it into the page below. Again using a finger swipe or the navigation key change to the page containing the application you wish to add. Tap and hold the icon and then drag it to the top row. Press the Menu key and select Save ( or Discard ) if you make a mistake.

Try a Home Replacement App.

My current favorites are ADW_Launcher closely followed by Tag Home.

You can have two custom apps using ADW_Launcher, or change all 4 in Tag Home.

Both use up less memory than that awful Pantheon launcher that Samsung supplied.

I've been looking to change that particular icon for a while and all of the home replacements I used kept crashing.

Are you sure? Have you tried HelixLauncher?

Version 1 not v.2. HelixLauncher2 on spica crashed, but HelixLauncher 1, rock solid. And faster than HelixLauncher2, by the authors own words.
