I have tons of Apps that I don't use or even want on my phone. They all came with the phone and it won't let me uninstall them. How can I get rid of them? Are they slowing my phone down? (Stuff like Footprints, Youtube, Peep...etc...)

Also, what is the cheapest way to upgrade to a better phone? I have Verizon and renewed my contract about 6 months ago so I don't have the early upgrade option yet. Will I have to buy a new phone at full price?

The only way is to root the phone. Otherwise, those apps are locked and cannot be deleted.

oh ok. There are SOOOOO many different root threads and different roms, that honestly I don't know how to root it. Half of the threads that tell me how to root make me click links that send me to threads thats are several months old.

I'm just afraid to try one of them now and end up bricking my phone.

    This forum:

    http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/163116-eris-rooting-methods-related-links.html

has many root methods.. if you want to root badly enough, you'll find some very easy to accomplish ways of going about it.. we have hundreds of Eris users who have rooted, some afraid of "bricking," with no reports of truly doing that. ;)

    I recommend for you:

although my personal favorite is a step-by-step method that teaches you a bit about the process:

    http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/53963-guide-stock-1-5-latest-root-2-1-a.html

(that method is titled as if it is for teh old 1.5 OS, but works with the 2.1 OTA as well)

There are two fairly recent (and well-tested) methods that you can try, right in the All things root forums here:

    http://androidforums.com/eris-all-t...is-app-apk-no-pcs-no-scripts-needed-easy.html

    http://androidforums.com/eris-all-things-root/127861-universal-eris-root-dummies.html

Saying that, there are things that you should know about rooting:

    - technically, you are violating the terms of the warranty, and Verizon and HTC can technically refuse warranty service. That said, I have heard of nobody who was charged full price for a replacement when the phone was determined to have been rooted. You should know this before you root

    - Saying that, it is quite possible and not all that difficult to quickly unroot the phone and return it to stock Eros 2.1, at a point where HTC and Verizon would not be able to determine that the phone was rooted

    - technically I suppose it is possible to brick your phone using those methods, I have heard of nobody who has complained that this happened.

    - it is quite possible to get root user access keeping your ROM and just use it to delete those apps that you do not like. You can always choose later on to "graduate" to using a custom ROM (though, of course, you can always choose to root straight to a ROM that catches your interest.)

Great. I tried "Universal 1 Click Eris App Apk - No PCs, No Scripts Needed, EASY" and followed it step-for-step. When I powered off and then back on via "Volume up + power" it gets to a screen with a picture of the Droid Eris and a Triangle with an exclamation point. I can't do anything now.

Edit: I pulled the battery and re tried and I think it is working.

Step 5) Go into settings, and turn usb debugging on. After you have root, please uninstall this app.

I have no clue how to do this. I haven't looked through every category under "settings" and there is nothing about USB Debugging

So where is the best place to go to Chat with someone if my phone is not functional now?

I need to IM with someone, somewhere...

    Hi every one!
Please be a little patient with me. I installed and ran 1 click root, instead of power and up volume I need power and down volume button. I also installed ROM manager. Thinking things are going pretty well.

My question is how to I install some of the stock apps that come with the eris ie amazon, footprints etc. Also I use handcent for text can I blow away the other stock text app.

I would like to thank you all in advance for your cooperation - you guys/gals sure know what you are doing.

OK. I've been really thinking of rooting. Nonsenskikal has my interest. One question though..

On the 1 click universal app APK is that guy really serious about donating a meal or money? And how does it actually work that you donate? Does the program not work if you don't donate?

The program will work regardless, he's just trying to make is work do good for others.

I see the one click univ. app APK is available in the market. Is that a valid place to get it and use it or do I follow the download link above?
