This is really minor, but it's annoying to me to have an icon in my notification bar up top that USB debugging is connected. I realize I have to have the USB debugging option checked in settings, but it's annoying that this notification icon appears whenever I plug the phone into the computer.
How do I disable this icon?

Answer would be good to know - AFAIK, there wasn't a way to disable it, but I could be wrong, so I am gonna +1 to this request in case there *is* a way.

I'd like to know this too. As for some reason on my fresh Win7 install it wouldn't install my Droid drivers and I can only mount and charge my phone on it with USB debugging enabled on it.

  5. you can turn it off by going to Settings>Applications>Development, then unchecking the box.

No, he wants the notification icon in the notification panel off, not Debugging off.

Delete the icon maybe? I don't think you can actually turn off the notification unless you edited some system stuff.

Someone needs to make a fix for this cause a lot of us have root and therefore we SHOULD have USB debugging enabled. And all of these people (see: me) need this fix so they don't accidentally hit the wrong icon and get launched into annoying menus when they just want to copy a new ROM to their SD card! ;)

+1 to wanting this option. Sick of turning it off so I don't have to see the icon & then turning it back on to use debugging.

I'm modingg the framework-res of my system, let me see if that the entry of notification is somewhere in there. Maybe I can try to take it out of the xmls...

Not trying to hijack the thread, but could someone explain why or when we need usb debugging turned on? Titanium backup makes a point of telling the user to turn on debugging, but doesn't say why. Some other app says something about turning on debugging if you are not using a modern recovery.

On another note, Project Elite 4.2 has a setting in Settings > Elite Settings > General > USB Debugging Icon (on or off).

"Modern recovery?" Maybe you mean a custom recovery? Anyways I always recommend turning on USB debugging because at some point or another, we hackers are going to want (need) to use ADB to modify our phone(s). There is no harm in it at all. Plus as you found as well, there are a few apps that recommend it; and now with the latest RATC exploit to root our phone(s) (with it's various renditions), it is required to make this exploit work to root our phones.

This looks like it could satisfy the needs of the topic. And for this find, I am sure those who are looking for the fix that is the topic of this thread, your hijack is forgiven, lol. ;)

I am looking at my SD card and the tree looks strange to me. The file system is odd looking. I am attaching a screenshot in a .png. Tell me if it looks ok to you.
By the way, thanks again for all your help, and for putting up with me immense lack of knowledge on the subject. I'm learning by my errors.

Reviving an old thread, and also, first post on androidforums for me.

I'm wondering how to do the same, that is, disabling the "USB Debugging" notification, without actually disabling the debugging functionality.

I've looked around here and on Google, and haven't seen a solution, except where offered as a checkbox in the Settings of a particular ROM.

I came from CyanogenMod 7.x, where there was a checkbox to disable the notification, right next to the checkbox to disable the functionality itself. I have since gone to MIUI (the current MIUI.us build), where there is no checkbox for the notification.

Is there a file I can futz with manually to change this? Some hidden setting somewhere? I figure that since there is no checkbox for this on the MIUI ROM, this will be something that will require shell/adb with root to change, which I do not mind doing.

If anyone knows where to poke/look, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forums. While I don't have the whole answer, I do have some of it. AFAIK, what you are looking for would be contained within /system/app/Settings.apk. Now how you could change it to add/edit/fix it to your liking is way over my pay grade.

I am going to theorize that the editing would have to be done within the source code of the file (and the whole ROM) itself before the magical 'make' command is issued.

    good luck

this may be a day late and a dollar short .. but here's how i removed it from my razr running ics (idk what other android versions this applies to):

    root phone
    remount /system as read/write
    backup /system/build.prop to your sdcard
add the line below to /system/build.prop
    Code (Text):
    1. persist.adb.notify=0

if you are rooted you can add the line to build.prop by running this from from a terminal (assuming you have adb setup and in your PATH)
    Code (Text):
    1. adb shell
    2. su
    3. echo "persist.adb.notify=0" >> /system/build.prop
if that gives you a permission denied try running this first:
    Code (Text):
    1. adb remount

So, does this remove the notification while keeping ADB Debugging on? Looks like it does, just want a clarification.

    Thx.
