    Hi Lethal. I had a 5800 too.

All I did was Sync my 5800 to outlook with Ovi Suite.
So all my contacts were transfered into outlook contacts.

Then I downloaded HTC Sync form the HTC site, and that took all my contacts over to my new baby Desire.

    Good luck ;-)

Alternatively, can you send them all as bluetooth contacts? That's what I did to get mine from the N95, it let me do a "select all" and then send as contacts and gave me an option to use bluetooth, took a while and 800 will probably take ages but it might be another option.

You could install googlesync on your nokia, if you have a gmail ccount (if not you'll need one anyway to access the market) and that will sync all your contacts with gmail. Then when you set up your htc desire and sign in with your gmail account, your gmail contacts (including from your nokia) will be accessible via your phone.

Easier option, plug in your nokia, using nokia suite, save contacts to memory card, then put memory card in the desire, the desire will find all your contacts, i think nokia suite calls the folder "exported contacts"

The way I did it was

Load up PC Suite (not Ovi) onto a PC.
Import the contacts from the Nokia phone to PC Suite.
Export those contacts as a CSV
Imported that CSV into my Google account
Then sorted out the contacts in Google, merging and editing where needed
    Synced with HTC Desire.
    Done.

Not all Nokias support the export to memory card option.

    Mark all>send>via bluetooth. Done.

    300+ contacts took 20 secs.

    .

1stly, thankyou to everyone that helped, I did appreciate it ...
I tried ALL the suggestions, only to fail, maybe it was just me.? LOL

Anyway ... Finally done.! - I ended up " Bluetoothing " them ALL over.!
I had a Nokia 5800, Contacts / Mark All / Send As Business Card / Bluetooth
On the Desire in the notifications, I think I clicked on vCards, & the Desire opened them all ...
Checked my Contacts on the Desire under People & Wow.? - It's actually there.? - Thank goodness for that.!

Anyway, It didn't work initially, so I rebooted both devices & then they both wanted to play.!

    - All contacts saved.! :) Yay.!

    Lethal,

Your NEXT objective will to transfer all your CALENDAR dates over :)

For what it's worth (and I'm getting my Desire today :) ), I have found that if you use OUTLOOK to store your Mokia address book, then these may be exported (as CSV) to desktop, then IMPORTED into Google and, apparently, when the phone is connected the contacts will be sucked into the phone!

Same with calendar. I have that synced between my phone (N97mini) and Outlook, but have found there is a Google Sync which may be downloaded, which will syn calendar dates between Outlook and Google. Really quite simple and straightforward. Just got to wait for my phone to load them on there now :)

    Cheers

The good thing about bluetoothing over, is they automatically become google contacts - so get backed up.

As for the calendar, as above. Sync the Nokia to outlook, then use the Google>outlook sync tool to get them to your phone.

    Hi Stringent,

How do you import the CSV into your google account. Please help me with the steps. I have also lost some information in syncing it through outlook as only single mobile numbers get transferred of a contact and not the second mobile number of the same contact.

Thank you so much for that. I've just joined this forum as I was not having much luck transfering my contacts from my Nokia N86. What you suggested worked perfectly. :D
