Help How do you completely restore your phone back to stock?

For some reason my phone does not vibrate for incoming text messages anymore and I have all the settings on. I cannot figure it out. Spent a lot of time. I want to restore it and then if that does not do it I am going to return it for a new one.

Turn the phone off, turn it back on but also hold the down volume button (i think it's the down one, if not do it with the up one). In the menu screen that comes up, it will say something like clear rom or clear image, press that. It's the factory restore.

Thanks...do you know if i'd have to repurchase apps I have bought?

I shut it off and turned back on holding volume. It came to a screen where I could make a selection. I chose recovery and it goes to a black screen with a pic of a phone with a red triangle and an ! in it. Any ideas?

Resetting the device deletes all data, including downloaded applications, and resets the device back to its initial state
