Root How does Froyo decide what apps to reinstall automatically?

I noticed that Froyo installed a bunch of old apps back to my phone that I uninstalled long ago. Is this because remnants are on my SD card or are they stored on Google servers somewhere? I would really like to clean up this list so all these random apps aren't reinstalled the next time I upgrade my ROM.

    Anyone know?

If you checked "backup data with Google", then it remembers the apps you've purchased, though it should also know when you uninstall them.

So the next time you sign in (like after a ROM reinstall), it automatically syncs and redownloads those apps.

FWIW, this is not a Froyo feature. It's been around since 1.x

    Interesting...

What about apps I did NOT purchase? Some of them were freebie apps? Can I clear this "backup data with repository"?
