I am planning to use my galaxy S instead my standalone GPS. However, i do not have a data plan. How do the GPS apps on the galaxy work? Will it be possible without the transfer of data?

    Yes, I'm using MapDroyd.

Free download (but pretty large, depending on how many countries you want). It goes down to street level on full zoom. So far though, I can't get my Galaxy S to give a GPS fix when I have flown to the destination.

Perhaps if you drive anywhere, the GPS lock should remain with you?

MapDroyd is fairly basic in it's presentation and doesn't have satellite views etc but then again it would require an absolutely massive amount of memory, which is why apps such as Google Maps require you to have a data connection whilst roaming.

    Hope that helps?
