How long do you wait before getting the latest and greatest phone?

In other words, how long do you typically stick with your android phone?

I've been using my Skyrocket for a few months now, and even though I have the urge to get one of the higher end phones such as the Nexus 4 or Galaxy s3, I'm pretty happy with what I have and can hold off for now.

I currently have a Strat. and enjoy using it, but I would like to get another phone, but I really can't afford to pay full price and not up for a carrier upgrade until Dec. '13 and don't want a new 2 year contract.

A phone typically lasts me about a year before I end up getting a new one. I'll probably officially be on the yearly Nexus upgrade cycle now that I've learned my lesson about buying non nexus phones.

Typically lasts me almost two years since that's my carrier upgrade cycle. Although I'm breaking it this year because I kept my phone and took a free Tab from my carrier lol. Still looking if I can suck it up and not buy a phone until the next upgrade. Lol. My carrier upgrade is worth around $400 discount, so its pretty tempting to just wait it out.

Until it dies or ceases to be useful. I'm the same with most tech items. Last one was two years....Samsung Galaxy S(deceased).

IMO if you wait for the next latest greatest, by the time you get it, you'll be wanting the next latest and greatest after that one. I'm not committed to any two year contacts, pre-paid monthly.

Well......last April, I got the Xperia Play, then I got the Xperia Arc. My partner then got the Sensation, I ended up with that and her the Play. Then in December she got the S2. Brilliant phone, I got one too in January this year. Come June I got the S3.

At the moment, I've sold my S3, decided I could use a Lumia 800 which I initially bought to use for games and music - but would have to get a Nexus 7 so did so. Totally regretting it though and now looking at getting either another S3, a Note 2 or the Nexus 4. Not decided yet lol.

And those phones are just last year/this year!

So in total contrast to Bexy my current phone is 2.5 years old, and I'm not sure what its expiration date is. Most likely when it breaks or when something both offers a clear advantage and "feels right".

Should add that I buy phones off contact and stay SIM only, so don't have a carrier-provided upgrade cycle.

Actually this is true. I go about six or seven months before I get a new phone. Some of them I keep, while others I will sell to offset the price of the new one.

I get a new phone every 12 months/18 months.

Before smartphones I had my Nokia for ten. I'm not the kind to want the latest and greatest and preferred to keep not replace. I wont upgrade my version of Android unless I need some super killer feature. And even if I do its usually tablets, not phones. I don't ask much of a smartphone

I had my EVO 4G for 1 year and then bought out the remainder of my contract to upgrade to the EVO 4g LTE. I plan on sticking with this for 2 years.

I'm on ATT, and usually wait every 18 months when my upgrade hits. I just picked up a SGS3 about 2 weeks ago, and sold my ATT locked HTC inspire for almost as much as the S3 cost me. I am VERY tempted to root the S3, but I'm also very nervous about bricking the phone, and I'm pretty happy with the functionality of the phone currently.

I usually get the itch about a year in, although obviously it depends on what's available and how I feel about my current device. The cost isn't horrible as long as you keep your stuff in good condition and watch the timing. The difference between buying the new phone and selling off the old usually falls in the $100-$200 range.

It all depends but I have had 8 Android phones and 2 iPhones (4s and 5) within the last 3 years. Getting the Droid DNA on Wednesday. If I feel the urge to get something new next year, I will just sell it and get a new one like I aw always do.

I think a lot of Android Enthusiasts do the whole yearly kind of purchase, but i wait about 18 months, i think that is when i am eligible for an upgrade through Verizon, i have already had the itch to get a new device, been running the GNex for about a year now, but my wallet turns me away everytime haha

Yeah, I get a yearly itch. Verizon doing away with the yearly upgrade has been very costly for me already . Just retired my GNex (Bought launch day, 12/15) for the DNA (Bought launch day 11/21).

My previous phone lasted from November 2010 to July 2012. I switched because the battery died and was unable to find a replacement battery in time before leaving for my vacation. I ended up getting a new phone as I was eligible for a hardware upgrade. I originally intended to keep using that old phone until March of 2012 at least.
