I see that the GSM 2.1 update is now finally doing the rounds (so many people must be so happy right about now), and I was thinking of joining them. Currently on a VillainROM (6.0.1) which is not bad ... but I want the official 2.1 from HTC ... which by reading around, it looks like I'd have to downgrade to stock 1.5 before upgrading OTA to 2.1 ... a right mess about.

I want to retain root access though (for backups primarily), so it looks like a repack is the way forward. How long could I expect to wait before one becomes available for download?

I'm not after a developers "spin" on 2.1. I'd just like stock GSM 2.1 from HTC with root access. Will it happen?

    thx

Absolutely, I am also sick of all the crap and bugs from custom roms, I just want a un-molested repack.

Root and Apps2SD is all we need in a ROM.

At least two developers over at XDA are hard at work to make it. From what I understand, there are some issues with making it boot properly, first release ended up at "hero" boot screen indefinitely.

That was based on Taiwanese 2.1 release, most European people are waiting for one based on WWE release.

And it looks like it has arrived, and is working. Test and report, folks. :)

    So ....

All I need to download is item "5" in the "Information" section?

or should I update the radio first?

Radio is fully independent from the system itself, so you can choose whether or not to update it as well - although I would recommend it, as there haven't been any problems reported with it, and at least over here it seems to work quite well.

EDIT: The new pre-rooted stock ROM seems to have several issues with low GSM signal and wifi not working - I would suggest waiting it out (unless you want to help troubleshooting) and not flashing it just yet.

Cheers for that mate, I'll leave it for a few days I think. I'm no expert, and I'd rather just follow a guide with a fully-working ROM ;)

    Anyone done this yet?

Its all gone a bit quiet ...

EDIT: Gorblimey, there is a VillainROM 11.9.1 out now ... wonder if I should now wait for Villain12 ...

Probably....seeing as its a tester. Once they have the bugs sorted, then they will release it as VR12.

As per their site 'Why VillainROM11.9.1? It means if stuff breaks, tell us and we'll fix it, and the result will be the final VillainROM12 release'
