Still on my first one which was made on 7/12/10 and purchased on 7/31/2010. Only problem is the GPS issue and DM initailisation is not ready (when checking for software upgrade).

    Third phone.

First phone had a dead pixel in the middle of the screen.
Second phone had a reflective metallic dirt under the glass.

As long as the phone is defective, they will swap it out with out too much trouble. Since you are within 30 days, you have all the leverage you want. Tell them you'll just return it if it can't be replaced.

Well I've had five (I think? hard to keep track lol) of them now so I think you should be good.

Does the 30 days start over each time you exchange the phone?

It doesn't start over. You have 30 days from the initial purchase to make a decision as far as I know.

Yeah but the last swap out was on day 28, what happens if the latest one is also physically defective?

Im actually just going to return it, and then give them the middle finger, im going to verizon, the hell with At&t, the only advantage they had on me was their "unlimited data", which was only 5 gb

Went through 3 torches, on my second captivate. I have a black mark against my name in the database at the ATT orchard store in Colorado.
problems with all of them, none of which were my fault.

    1. Wobbly screen
    2. Screen incorrectly, installed on one side. ATT rep tried to fix it by popping it back in at which point my wireless stopped working.
    3. Buzzing sound every time I talked. Decided torch had quality issues and jumped to droid.
    4. Made to feel like criminal because droid would not stop shutting off, I had obviously done something wrong and besides, Jose had already blacklisted me after my 3rd torch. Obviously I am an exceptionally picky customer and will have to go through warranty if I have any more problems.

My 30 days is not up until the 13th. Maybe there is something to not making an electronics purchase on friday the 13th.

The third Captivate proved to be the winner.

Just a note, I have at&t. If you do as well, it's 30 days from original purchase. Also you can go to any at&t store to do exchange. If your 30 days are up, you still have 11 months to exchange through warranty. The phone support guy I spoke with said that if you have to do it this way they will send you a new phone before you have to send yours back.

I'm on my 2nd captivate, still within store exchange window.

Your one year warranty lets you Exchange your phone at any time during that one year. Many stores will replace it, but sometimes they want you to cross ship.

The 30 day period is for return and cancellation.

I just traded in my fifth captivate. And to the guy going to Verizon... Good luck. If you think AT&T's support and return policy are bad, you're in for an unpleasant surprise. Verizon were some of the most inflexable customer service people I've ever dealt with.

Beware with AT&T on warranty exchange. They reserve the right to exchange with a refurb phone and not a new one.

As every carrier does (except T-Mobile, I think)... This is standard boiler plate contract BS.

This is my first experience with AT&T (I have been on the three other major players in the US). I've never experienced such terrible call tracking and such a disappointing phone. I've had a cell phone since 1997, and used them in five countries and tens of states, BTW.

I had a better experience with a $20 phone in Honduras and Guatemala than I do from my house on open space and within sight of a tower.

My new Captivate comes in today. If the WiFi and GPS don't work, they are both going into the mail and my 30 days is over. I'll wait for the HTC Glacier on TMobile.

The GPS won't work as desired, so if you have any expectation of keeping your replacement I am now the official bearer of bad news...unless you wish to be patient. Assuming that your WiFi issue was addressed, you can either wait for the Samsung fix or I'll be looking for your good-bye Captivate post.

Yeah... Go to a carrier that has 25% of the network of AT&T, and I don't know if you know this, but T-Mobile relies on AT&T's network to function. They've been in bed together since AT&T's technology shift to GSM. T-Mobile doesn't have the financial backing to roll out the towers necessary to sustain it's traffic, so they just use AT&T's vastly more built out network.

You will notice a speed bump in large cities as their networks are less saturated, but if you're looking for a better network, or to travel outside of the city on anything but AT&T's network, you're looking in the worst place possible (except for Sprint)...

According to the at&t corporate store that I bought mine from, I am on number 3 and they told me I have 30 days from yesterday. The contract for service starts the day of your original purchase.

Well, if indeed I am using the same towers on my Nokia 5800 with T-Mobile and the Captivate, that must make the phone hardware itself more of a differentiator.

    New marketing slogan:

"Captivate: more sucktastic than you thought!"

    or

"Galaxy S: gorgeous screen, geolocation and calling optional"

    :-D

Several people have stated that they have signal issues with the Captivate, and that the newer firmwares are helping with that quite a bit.
