Wouldn't this only add the update to your CURRENT ROM (if it's not already included in it anyway?) In other words, if I do this process, it would add it to what I'm running now, but when I flash a new one (and I will flash a new one) it would remove this update and start a new. Is that right?

Good point, yes, this is the "UPDATE", not the full ROM, and should only be applied to a stock ROM. And yes, if you flash a different ROM, the dev would need to have included it.

I am going to edit the post to note that.

    Thank you.

Thanks - I already did the kernel update based on hearing good things about battery charging time, not sure yet myself but certainly not worse.

So 2 questions - am I still 'stock' enough? and did you happen to be curious enough to discover what other things actually changed aside from the addition of vcast stuff?

In other words, what bug fixes am I missing? :)

Just tried this, downloaded the links. When I go to install the update.zip from Clockwork Mod, I get:

    E:failed to verify whole-file signature
    E:signature verification failed

Running with ClockworkMod 2.5.0.5, root, S-OFF, Stock 2.2. Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

    Thanks for your help.

I had that too, I believe I gave it another reboot to solve it.

S-Off allows you to flash anything, and that message freaked me out a bit, but it did go.

I really have no idea, I just happen to be really good at piecing things together and writing How-Tos.

I don't get into the guts at all.

    Sorry.

    Thanks to dsb9938!

So I tried it again, and no problems with any signatures or anything. I then went to the next step and reinstalled the ClockworkMod recovery (v.2.5.0.5).

When I rebooted after that, it seemed to get stuck at the droid "red eye" with two dots to the right of the eye. Got worried, but after about a couple of minutes, reboot completed.

I did have to do the su file - Even though I went in a verified I still had the super user icon, my wireless tether did not work. After I installed the su file, I confirmed that my wireless tether worked.

I did not do the last file (payload-update.zip). Not sure what that does.

I also did not use the Quick Boot, but did battery pulls instead.

I also verified I had the new V CAST Apps icon.

Also, Software Number for me is 3.26.605.1.

    E:failed to verify whole-file signature
    E:signature verification failed

I reboted 20 times now with no luck. So if anybody finds a solution to my problem, please let me know. Thanks

    p.s. running with ClockworkMod 2.5.0.5, root, S-OFF, Stock 2.2.

Try this, leave it on for a few hours, then reboot into recovery and try.

Myself and bwhipp both had some time pass.

I cannot for the life of me see why it matters, but this seems to be the pattern. If it works that way for you I will update the doc.

I keep getting "Error in /sdcard/update.zip" (status 7)
    Installation aborted.

Anybody know what the deal with that is?

    Thanks

And the phone is giving you this message in hboot?

I don't think a PC can open the file, I know WinZip errors, but you don't need to open it on the PC.

Okay, did you receive the update before you started?

Has it asked you to install?

DINC rooted stock 2.2 with S=off
I get the same message with the UPDATE.ZIP file aborting Status 7. Tried dowloading again to make sure file was ok but still no luck. I received the OTA message but did not install. After attempting this procedure the OTA message went away and when I check system updates it says I have the latest software. sftw 3.21.605.1

    Rooted, stock 2.2, Incredible, s-off
(rooted to get the crap off, pretty much know nothing)

I applied the update using your instructions above (it worked fine).

But after I add the ClockWork recovery to the sd card and go back to Hboot, it checks the sd and doesn't seem to see the PB31IMG.zip file. If it boot into recovery, i get a icon of a Dinc and an exclamation point (requiring a battery pull to get out of)

As a result, I've lost my root privileges (apps like Titanium backup can't get root access) even though I'm still S-off. The phone seems normal (except all the crap being on there now), but it is really sluggish if the usb is connected.

Any ideas what went wrong? or how to fix?

    I got it to work.....

The key here is the giant, bold red statement "STOCK ROOTED phones only".

After I originally rooted I had moved bloatware to a app.disabled folder. After restoring the crap back to the /system/app folder the procedure worked just fine.

    Thanks for the help.

    @DSB9938 --

THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I got the OTA and was going to try this. It's GREAT to know it's possible. I suspected it could be done via update.zip just like the FroYo OTA, even though I am rooted. I figured I'd have to reinstall Clockwork and SU/Superuser.

Just so you know payload_update is not needed (old wives' tale from another document). It has the same su and superuser as your su-x.x.x.x in the wrong places and they are old.

The latest su package is su-2.3.6.1 not the older one you linked to. This is the one the users want.

The current Clockwork is 2.5.0.5, which was installed by the UnrEVOked reflash package for FroYo back in September, not the older one you linked to.

I know, you got your links from another document. I notified the author of that (PDF) doc about the problems as well.

Edit: I put the Clockwork and SU files up on my server. Feel free...
    http://solo.dc3.com/dinc/ClockWorkRecovery 2.5.0.5 (PB31IMG).ZIP
    http://solo.dc3.com/dinc/su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip

edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to note that the OTA update went perfectly, no double icons, no troubles at all. I did disable AutoMemoryManager, SetCPU, Tasker, and WidgetLocker before starting. I also restored all bloatware from app.disabled and framework.disabled before starting.

I had a similar issue. I used ADB to check and/or change the file name and discovered that when I transfered the file to the SD card it added another ".zip" to the end of the file name, so that when I was in HBOOT it couldn't see the file. Once I removed that extra little bit it saw the file just fine.

I'm most of the way there. I was running a rooted stock 2.2 (with a different SU app then the one linked here), applied the update, installed clockwork, installed the SU and payload files. However, I don't think the root took, because I can't open the SU app, nor run wireless tether. Did I mess something up by installed the new SU app over the old one? Is there a way to uninstall the SU app and the payload and try again? thanks

I followed this procedure but right after trying to install the first downloaded file that was renamed update. I ended up with a black screen with two white bars down each side and it froze, I then tried to do the update with the paid version of rom manager and ended up in the same place. Is there anymore ways to get this update. Please help me.

Bob, Excellent input to this thread. I really need one of your easy to understand guides for this :)

I was starting this by taking your advice and restoring files from app.disabled to app when I noticed I am missing VzNav.odex and VZW_Skype.odex. I have the apk files but not the odex files. I must have done something wrong when I moved them to /system/app.disabled.

Am I stuck? Perhaps you can provide me with these two files if you have them? That would be great!!!!
