Hey there.

I've noticed that when I am using google maps, my direction of travel arrow will not be pointing in the obvious direction of travel. it thinks the phone is pointing about 45 degrees off.

i've seen the ability to calibrate the compass by rotating the phone around all three axis using the GPS status app. but that never seems to help.

anyone have ideas.

also, when i play doodle jump, the little jumping guy pulls left when my phone is held perfectly straight.

There's a Compass app, free in the Market, with a simple calibration procedure - https://market.android.com/details?id=com.apksoftware.compass

And it works. Most all YouTubes that claim to work by rattling the phone every which way are - well - kinda goofy.

Try that.

I always do prior to using Google Maps or Sky - works like a charm for me.

Don't know what to tell you about the jumping guy, tho.

Hi all, my first post. I have a 3 day old Galaxy Nexus that only indicated south in Google Sky regardless of calibration methods. I installed Compass by Catch as mentioned here and its calibration ( figure 8 ) woke it up and all is fine now. It also will tell you if there is any local interference of the magnetic field. I recommend it highly. YMMV
