    Hi Friends,

I can download apps directly by using Andriod Market on my phone. But doing so is costing me high on phone bills due to heavy downloading rates by my cell phone service provider.

Therefore, I thought that it would be great if I could download applications on my PC (as I have unlimited internet connection on PC), and then install the apps from PC to the smartphone.

I am not sure if I can do this. Any ideas suggestions will be highly appreciated.

Of course you can. You can download the apps and games as APK files, you can google the name of app followed by APK and you'd find it. From market, download and install "APK Installer". Copy the APK files to your SD card, open "APK Installer" it will browse your SD card, select the APK file and install it. That's it!

The only disadvantages of not downloading them from the market is that the APK provided to you on any other website could contain malware, and you will most probably not be notified if an update is available for that app :)

Since you have a unlimited internet connection on your PC, I would advice you to get a wireless router and then download all your apps using wi-fi.
You can ask your internet service provider if they can provide a wireless router.

Please forgive total ignorance. I have just got a Galaxy Ace ( 1rst time I have used a modern phone at all, though I have Nintendo DS, so am familiar with transferring games through PC)
How would I transfer them through wi fi to my phone. I am finding it difficult not having a book form of manual for the phone, just having to look every question up on line.

    In settings
    then wireless and networks
    then wifi settings
then add wifi network - now have to select your wireless router and possibly have to enter passcode also
when thats done on the menu tick the box to enable wifi

After that the phone will be online using your home broadband not your mobile provider broadband.

    Couple of notes.

    1 - you need a wireless router.
2 - wifi drains battery faster so advised to turn off when not in use.

the PC usb connection doesn't connect your phone to internet, you need a wireless network or the phone 3g data to sync the phone with gmail account to google services (android market), if you don't have wireless get a wireless router or if the PC has a wireless card create a ad-hoc network to share the wired internet.
