how to measure in Gmaps or Gearth?

i became very frustrated the other day when i tried to measure a simple distance in google maps but there did not seem to be a way.
i then tried in google earth but it was the same thing.

i am using a asus transformer that has both the maps app and the earth app.
is there anything i can do here? a plug-in? or am i missing the obvious?

In the old version of maps there was a "labs" feature you could turn on for measuring. I think it and all other Labs features may have been removed from the latest version. In other maps threads I've posted a link to someone's post with the APK for the last release of maps 6.

Google Earth has s little icon in the toolbar that looks like a straight rule. Click that and you can measure from that.

I haven't tried to use measure on Gmaps.

Google Labs was for experimental features, so they were essentially something we chose to beta test for Google. If they bring anything back that was in Labs they'll more than likely be added as regular features. Or Google could just decide that they didn't get enough use and they may be gone permenantly.

yeah, they did add a scale in the gmaps app but it still does not allow you to measure along a line or anything like that.

measuring on a PC is easy, its just the apps that need that function.

i miss the google labs stuff.
