How to Root after the Security fix in July

So I've seen a lot of "Root your G1" threads etc, and they all seem to have great walkthroughs, however I want to attempt to root my G1 , but I'm afraid to do it b/c I heard that with the Security Update they released, that the potential for bricking the phone was increased....

Is that true? Has anyone tried to root a phone with the most up-to-date OTA from t-mobile? IF so what did you use for this?

this process works on all CURRENT builds of android.
