I have an application called HiFiCorder which records audio amazingly well (up to 320k). It sounds excellent. WHY does the camcorder app record audio so terribly? Is there a camcorder app out there which records video very well and audio at a bitrate above 192k??

    Thanks in advance.

The codec android uses is meant for voice, not full audio. And not to mention, its over 10 years old, and records at 8khz.

    not that I have seen.

I think it also depends on the device. I know my Droid X audio is much better than the EVO and Incredible I had when taking video.

Well this is upsetting news! It's so frustrating knowing that the hardware is capable of such great audio, but there is no software that supports it.

Would it be possible for someone to write an app that supports higher than 8k? Or is it a limitation with the Android OS itself?

Absolutely. Check xda for custom roms. Many of them already have this built in.

I'm running CM6, and it seems CM6 is worse off than the stock HTC Hero Camcorder. lol. I'll hop over there to check it out, though. Thanks a lot.

So, I hopped over to XDA and posted this same conundrum. The community over there is worthless as tits on a boar... No one posted at all. Not even to tell me that I'm an idiot and that it's not possible.

Moral of the story: stick to Android Forums for all your questions.
