    I wrote to HTC complaining about poor signal strength with my phone. I never mentioned holding the device in different ways affects the strength, as I didnt learn about this until after I wrote them.
    Heres the response I got back;

    "My name is Markicia, and I would be happy to assist you today. HTC is tracking trends in regards to the signal for the Incredible. For now, try the below troubleshooting steps in attempts to resolve this issue. When holding the device, you should hold it with your fingertips for optimum strength in signal. Rest assured, HTC is trying to find a fix for the Incredible. When we do so, you will be notified by Email."

    Wow - thats all I can say...

    It has to be their power saver algorithms. I've noticed, although not consistently when I'm using data heavily I get at least 1 extra bar of signal if not more.

    I also emailed HTC about poor signal and poor call quality but my reply from them was a little different. Needless to say after performing the advised *228 options I see no difference in either issue. see reply below:
    "My name is Mia, and I would be happy to assist you today. HTC is tracking trends in regards to the signal for the Incredible. For now, try the below troubleshooting steps in attempts to resolve this issue. When holding the device, you should hold it with your fingertips for optimum strength in signal. Dial: *228 option 1-phone update *228 option 2- prl update After you have completed these steps, soft reset the device. You can soft reset by powering off the phone, removing the back cover and battery, replace the back cover and battery, and power the phone back on. So that HTC can further track the trends regarding the signal strength for the Incredible please reply with the following information. Please copy and paste this template and fill-in the answers for your reply. 1. What is your location? (City, State, and zip code) 2. What is the Serial Number/MEID Number for your device? You can locate either number on the back of your device under the battery. Let me know if you have noticed any improvements after performing the above trouble shooting steps. I want to apologize for any inconveniences you may have experienced. I want to thank you for contacting HTC. In order to help improve our service I

    I emailed them about 1 week ago and haven't heard from them yet.

    "you should hold it with your fingertips for optimum strength in signal"... I'd be scared to even try that .. I can just see it slipping and cracking on the pavement.

    Well it isn't really a signal problem. Its more of a cosmetic problem with the bar meter. I put both my Storm 2 and Incredible head to head with the internal Db meters and both had exactly the same Db readings while the Storm 2 was showing 4 bars the Droid only had one but internally the signal strength Db was EXACTLY the same. So its not really a problem with signal at all but with the meter itself showing the wrong signal its like having a faulty gas gage on a car showing 1/2 a tank when you just filled it. The phone is working fine the bar meter is inaccurate.

    In the past few hours you've logged about twenty posts all crying about how HTC/Google/Verizon/the Incredible are all terrible. Give it a rest.

    I'm not having any issues. I typically have 2 bars all the time, 4 while actually using the phone. I've had no connectivity issues.

    Your obviously ticked off about your Dad's phone (saw the post). Then the other 20 replies to various other posts where you are basically on a rant about this or that being wrong or broken or inadequate. You can always return the phone for something else if you are that unhappy. Just saying.
