    Hi Guys,

So I have an old official backup file from my old HTC Desire.
    sdcard/backup/HTC Desire
(NOTE: This is not a clockworkmod backup, its an official HTC backup)

I sold my old phone and bought a new one with an LCD screen.

I want to know if its possible to get my old text messages back etc.
My new phone is rooted, the old one was not.

I thought it might be as simple as just putting the HTC desire folder in the appropriate folder on my new SD card and the resetting the phone to factory. I was expecting to be prompted to restore my messages on bootup. But when I did this it only pulled a few SMS' from my SIM card and nothing from the backup folder.

Am I doing something wrong here? Is there any software out there that will let me at least read through my old backup file? Third party desktop software even?

    Thanks

Its just the automatic backup the phone does.

So normally how does one restore it? And does it survive a ROM change, if the new ROM is a Sense ROM?

its designed so if you do a factory reset, on first boot, it should prompt to restore. Although often it does not.

As long as the option remains on, it should continue to create backups regardless of what rom you are on.

Thanks..Good to know..Though it makes no 'Sense' making backups if they aren't reliable!

    Agree.

Although once rooted, better solutions are in place.

Possibly a silly suggestion, but wouldn't HTC have the tools to restore your data? Maybe you could take it to the service centre?

I always use TitaniumBackup-I've scheduled it to run on a regular basis twice a week and create backups. There are innumerable times when it saved me. Another is Nandroid for the ROM. Now I'm free to experiment with my phone! ;)
