Hi there, I was directed for support by @le3ky to see if this forum can help with my issue I'm having with my new HTC Desire I've just bought.

Now I'm frustrated to hell with android at the moment so forgive me if anything I say is wrong as I'm a bit late to the party both buying HTC and experiencing android so I'm very much noob with everything pretty much. Also I've googled to try help before hand till google couldn't find any further results so hopefully someone here can help.

Now I got the phone a couple of days ago from Trademe(NZ's equivalent of ebay so it's more then likely imported of sorts) excited as we all are usually with something new. It shipped with 8GB microsd and whatnot and is an SLCD version of A8181. Anyway I noticed box and all manuals were in German so I presumed it was a European and thought not much of it as it was mentioned it was 'factory unlocked'. I fired it up, thought it was strange it didn't have the configure stuff that you get with fresh android boot. I also noticed it had some Asian application installed which shouldn't be there I couldn't see name of as I cannot read their language. So I done a factory reset no worries everything was fine. I checked if it was shipped with 2.1 and surely enough it was running 2.1-update1.

So I had a quickly look around and thought it was awesome but I know 2.2 update should be ready to go so I fired up software update first try - "No updates available", second try several minutes later surely enough "2.2 OTA available" at this stage it was plugged in charging over USB using Wifi with my PC set the update to go all appeared to be fine update downloaded (from memory I believe it was the WWE version it pulled and installed). After it updated it rebooted itself all seemed to be fine then Sense lockscreen appeared and showed the phone had no mobile signal thought it was a bit odd cause it was fine before, then unlocked it and sense started doing initial loading then I got hit with "Sorry! - Process system is not responding. [Force close] [Wait]" I thought it was just minor clicked wait then proceeded to look around then bam reboot out of nowhere.

It then repeated all of the above and still does. I've tried restoring thinking it would go back to 2.1-update1 - nope. Ok, googled for manually installing the update I've tried the bootmanager one I've come accross switching some file and renaming it PB99IMG.zip and loading that - nope gave me an error. I then tried in recovery mode loading an update.zip - nope that method didn't work. I've tried with the RUU both European and WWE from shipped roms - nope they give me Customer ID error 131 too.

I've tried pretty much all I could find on google but here I am 36 hours later with a phone stuck in a boot loop every minute or so and practically not working. I'm not sure if the phone was once branded or if it's locked or what I can't see any branding on it and it's had the same white default htc boot screen/recovery stuff since 2.1-update1 and still with 2.2.

I'd just like to get 2.2 running or back to 2.1 so my phone can at least work.

If anyone can help resolve it I will be eternally grateful as it's got me at my wits end.

Here's current information of the (broken) android it's running if it helps too:
    Android version: 2.2
    Baseband version: 32.41.00.32U_4.08.00.09
    Kernel Version: 2.6.29-0cb9f166 htc-kernel@and18-2 #1
    Build nubmer: 2.10.405.2 CL226611 release-keys
    Software number: 2.10.405.2

I should also add that as far as rooting goes, I don't believe it was rooted when I got it nor have I rooted it. I don't understand all that stuff yet and I'm just keen to learn to drive android before I start putting mag wheels etc on it, so to speak.

    Thanks, Antz.

What is happening now, do you get into android but then get force close on sense, or are you not getting that far?

I have a feeling you may need to create a goldcard (made out of an SD card) but you will need the ability to read this on your pc.

See the links below. 1st one creates a goldcard. You will need this if your phone was or is branded. Since we're not sure, probably safest.

2nd link downgrades to Generic stock 2.1, then you should be able to do another OTA update or update using an RUU

I can get into sense and android. It flicks up the 'Process system not responding' after about 30 seconds of loading into sense and it doesn't seem to matter if i hit force close or wait as I can carry on browsing around it for about another minute or so (not that anything is working at this stage) then it reboots itself even. Even when it's left idle with screen off it reboots itself.

I saw about the goldcard stuff but still trying to get my head around it though and I'll have to buy another MicroSD card. Also the fact that it should be a lot more easier then this just to downgrade or at least reinstall it.

Thanks for the links I'll go pick up another MicroSD card soon and try it.

You can use your existing SD card.

Someone mentioned something about pressing the search button when Sense is doing the force close bit at a certain time and managing to get you somewhere where you can clear cache and data for sense via manage applications (or something) I'll see if I can find that post.

Dont think it partitions the card, no. Its a tool. Pretty easy to use. But yeah, you should be able to swap it out no problems.

Ok I bought a 2GB SD card and done the goldcard software as you mentioned I think loaded the RUU WWE update (RUU_Bravo_Froyo_HTC_WWE_2.09.405.8_Radio_32.43.00.32U_5.09.00.20_release_140022_signed.exe) from shipped roms and it now appears all functioning as normal. Is this rom/firmware all ok no major bugs or anything I should be aware of as it's a bit lower then the 2.10 that the OTA loaded up ?

I can't thank you enough mate for guiding/assisting me i was nearly going to send it back i was so fed up with boot loops. They really should fix android so it doesn't need this goldcard stuff it would make life much easier.

thank you, thank you and thank you. :)

edit: Just done the update from the above and now it's up to 2.10 build and all is fine! :D

No worries. I was just going to mention there was an update available.

    Glad you're sorted.

Going by the OP it looks like it updated the OTA file but ignored the radio, hence it crashing and you having issues. I reckon it was a previously branded Desire so as said you'll need the gold card for ALL future OTA updates if you don't want the same thing happening again
