I am getting one of these phones, brand new and factory unlocked
HTC Desire - $450 (version with AMOLED screen)
Nexus One - $375 (version with AMOLED screen)
    Samsung Galaxy S - $425

I am also interested in the hardware for all the devices and realize that the samsung processor is far superior to the snapdragon but when will that be an advantage.

Also is there a way around the Touchwiz interface like a cuatom rom is out and if there is then how do I use it. I enjoy stock android the most but it isnt a major issue

    Any other phone suggestion?

I've had the Desire since May, it's practically the Nexus One but I prefer the buttons on the Desire (nexus was released here in the uk so didn't have a choice really). My gf recently got the Galaxy S, bigger screen, much lighter, much quicker, comes with almost 2gb space for apps internally and another 6gb for storage, and an external class 6 8gb SD (desire has 150mb available for apps and mine came with class 2 4gb SD), so with hindsight, I made the bad choice

You're using $ so I'm guessing you're from the states.. why not get the Samsung Epic 4G or the HTC Evo 4G?

And you can root the Desire to get the default android homescreen, or get launcher pro on Samsung to get a HTC Sense-like UI with 7 screen preview,

I believe they all use the same processor but the samsung has a dedicated graphics chip so it performs better in games and visually demanding tasks.

Desire for me. Internal storage not a problem with a2sd and a decent memory card. Plus when its rooted there is loads of custom roms to try, some have overclocking abilities so it can become 1300mhz

does your hatered come from lack of knowledge of how to opperate it, from superfast processor, from good connectivity, from sense ui, from being superior than most of current phones on the market, from not being iphone 4, from being expensive, from ability to shoot 720p video, from good xda support, from bein android, from being able to do most things one's laptop can do? god know's what you see in desire being so bad that you want to throw it to the wall :))

EDIT: and you're from lithuania (hmm shame to bash desire so much when currently the best phone back home is nokia 3310 aka bear bottle opener :) im also lithuanian btw :) )

would suggest you to go through galaxy s forum first maybe it will make change your mind :)
terrible lagging - however there is unofficial fix for it
terrible GPS fix as - samsung says they're aware of it but not telling when the issue will be fixed.
no 2.2 froyo (trust me on this samsung will not do all their best on releasing it if ever releasing it :) (look at my signature for original samsung galaxy))
    no sense ui
    no flash on camera
    cheapish design (very plasticy feeling)

been playing with it for a few days as my friend asked me to put some music for him, overal good phone but i bet it will have more issues with 2.2 as samsung devs are terrible at fixing issues (but very good at introducing new ones :) ) sorry but no matter what happends will never go back to samsung (dont want to burn twice :p )

Went to shop to see one for comparison, could not believe how ugly the phone was and then the salesman turned it on. Oh my God, 5 minutes later he passes it to me and the phone lagged so bad I could not believe that they would show a phone in a voda phone shop in that state.

Liked how light it was though.

Could not live with such an ugly piece of plastic particularly as games on mobiles don't appeal to me as3d games suffer from poor controls on phones and generally are not enjoyable.

Desire on the other hand excells as a phone with great internet, exactly what I wanted and exactly what I got. Could not be happier :)

I'd take the galaxy out of the equation altogether (personally) because it looks awful and it does have serious issues.

So its between the desire and the nexus 1. Personally I like the desire. The Nexus 1 is faster out of the box, but with all the custom roms out there, they can both end up pretty equal.

It depends what look you like best. I like the desire's case and it looks a bit more of a quality product with the optical track ball. That said, I don't find it as functional as the Nexus 1's track ball.

If you really want to save $75 (which is a lot), then you're not missing out on much if you go for the N1. Just that Android is vanilla there, where as with the desire you get the nice Sense UI and Widgets (which you may turn away from in the future anyway.)

At the end of the day, they're both good handsets and only you will be able to deside. Try them out in-store (if you can the N1?) and see what you think.

I had the stock Froyo on my Desire for a while. Ended up installing a Froyo with Sense ROM. Sense UI does add to the Android experience for me.

Can't speak for the Galaxy S series and their Touchwiz Interface.

When I went to see the galaxy s, I wanted to see the difference between the screens - super oled vs oled of the desire. Much to my surprise, I did not notice much of a difference.

I rarely experience lag on my desire but the sgs I was shown in store would have been unusable in the state it was in. The sales rep tried to blame customers fiddling with the settings - but the sales rep failed after fiddling to make it run smooth.

Is the desire on offer to you the one with the oled screen or the new slcd screen?

My HTC desire which was manufactured in Aug 2010 has only 512 MB ROM and 2GB SDCard memory in comparison to the Samsung Galaxy-S even though the price were similar.
Galaxy-S has 2 GB ROM and 16GB internal SD Card and also supports 32 GG additional SD card.
The HTC Desire is cribbing of low space to store application and does not allow to install on the SD Card.
Battery dies within 24 hours even if everything is turned off (GPS, Bluetooth, Least screen brightness, and using Advanced Task Killer)

I have a friend who has a galaxy s, I was shocked when he told me he had hard reset it 4 times in the first 2 weeks. I've had my desire for 3 months & never reset it.

I dunno what to say about the nexus 1, it's a bit old, but still has comparable specs to current phones. At this stage though, I'd probably try to hold out for the next generation of phones.
