Help HTC Hero/Contact Recovery

Please help me how I can recover my lost contact. All the sudden my contact list has disappeared on my HTC Hero. The phone was working fine but it went thru a forced closing and then all the contacts disappeared. Please note I have not synced my phone and therefore I don't have any backup. Please let me know is there any way to recover the extensive list of the contacts which I had on the phone. Thank you for the help.

How were the contacts stored, on SIM or internal memory (Phone)? If the latter, and you have no backup, then I'm afraid that the outlook isn't good. :-(

Contacts were saved in phone internal memory.

If they haven't reappeared after a reboot then I think they may be gone for good.
