As I am considering switching to the Incredible from the Moto DROID (just as I'm sure many others are considering switching from currently capable phones), I thought this would be a great thread to have for those of us taking the wait-and-see approach. I am interested to see what - if any - major issues might crop up on this phone before I take the leap.

I also thought it would be a great resource for new Incredible owners to have a place to look and see if there are known issues with the phone and possible remedies to them. I will check the thread as often as I can and update the OP so the information will be readily at hand.

    HARDWARE

    - Poor Reception? It has been reported by some users and reviewers that reception is questionable, including fluctuating 3G coverage, but there are other users which dispute this. It is not likely that there will be a definitive answer on this until after the release date when a much larger number of users in more markets are able to test their reception.

    - AMOLED screen is difficult to view in direct sunlight. Known issue with all AMOLED screens and seems to be improved from the N1

    - Back of phone / battery door is described as feeling somewhat "flimsy" compared to phones with more solid construction. NOTE: This is somewhat up for debate. Users are reporting that this is not the case, but there are reviewers and some users who still stand by their assessment.

    - Vibration is reported to be weak, a known issue with the HTC Droid Eris.

    - Some users are reporting significant noise in photos taken with the 8MP camera.

    ANDROID / SENSE UI

    - Apps are currently unable to use the built-in 8GB of storage. There is speculation this will be remedied, but no answer yet.

    - When headphones are connected to the audio jack and speaker output is selected, if you terminate fm radio with headphones plugged in and screen off by removing the headphones...the program terminates but radio doesn't shut off and sound still comes from the speaker. Have to restart phone to have it shutoff...doesn't show up in advanced task killer. Not yet confirmed by other users.

    APPLICATIONS

    - Android Market is currently not displaying certain apps because Google has not yet updated it to support the Incredible's ROM; this should be remedied soon.

    - Flash Lite has been reported by one user to stop the data connection with some videos, requiring a battery pull to remedy the situation. No confirmation on this yet.

There is no real information about this yet because the phone hasn't been officially launched.

The only real complaint is that the AMOLED screen is drowned out by direct sunlight.

Yeah that seems to be the only known issue right now, but that's definitely a well known case from previous AMOLED screens. Can't wait until the standard becomes Super AMOLED so that problem can be extinguished. From all the reviews that I've read, there is an issue with the video audio quality and camera performance from time to time.

According to people who have received theirs it's actually not too bad.

I haven't seen anyone who's gotten one have any problems so far. I don't think there will be any problems like the N1 had.

My gf wants a new phone NOW but I have convinced her to wait and look at the Incredible. I'd sure like to know if people are having trouble with the Incredible before she puts down her money.

To those who got their phones early... How's it going??

There is one bug already identified by reviewers a few days ago:

Third party apps can not read the internal 6.6gb of flash memory. This makes the space unusable unless by the OS or some pre-installed apps.

Right, I guess there sort of is one. Though I wouldn't really call it a "bug". I don't think any other android phones came with this separate internal memory so programs just weren't written to use it. I'm sure most will be updated to use the Incredible's memory, shouldn't be a hard thing.

The concern is the memory was mapped so third party apps could not map to it if they wanted. Almost like unallocated flash-rom space for the framework. Not long to find out, since devs will be wanting their apps to work on Dinc's internal memory- it was a marketing point for the device :)

Logical expectation would be that it will work. Most will probably think- what was the point then? This will probably be the number one CS call, since most will expect it to work with their apps- as it should.

I've had mine for 3 days, upgraded from the Droid and just love it. The difference in speed is very obvious and the screen resolution seems much better when viewing images, videos and browsing. The browsing is much faster.

The only problem I am having is with the market. Apparently Google has not updated the market database for this ROM and many apps are not available.

Final opinion, I feel the Droid is a much better built piece of hardware but the technology is the Incredible is far advanced. Would I swap the Droid for the Incredible again, absolutely.

I think I read somewhere that there is no way to purchase music like we could with the Droid via Amazon--is this true?

There is an app on the Droid named MP3 Store which takes you to Amazon mp3 sales. That program is missing on the Incredible and not found in a market search.

I don't think the market issue is a Incredible problem. Most apps are written to be compatible with certain size screens. Similar issues have been found in several device such as the tattoo which has a 240 x 320 qvga screen. Once developers add the screen size support for the incredible apps should be visible. I'm sure the same apps viewable for the N1 are viewable for the incredible. The market is also location and carrier dependent. Apps that show up for the t-mobile N1 will not show up for Verizon's Incredible and so forth. Apps that show up in the U.S don't show up in the U.K, etc.

It is an Incredible issue only to the extent that we have limitations in market apps available to other android devices on the same network and in the same geographic footprint. Example, PayPal was released to the US market only. Available on the Droid but not the Incredible.

The problem is a Google issue and hopefully they will get it corrected soon, if not, they are going to have allot of complaints from those migrating form another android device.

THe battery door didn't feel flimsy at all to me. I held 2 of these beautiful phones in my hands today, and they seem to be well built.

From reading the reviews and everything on this phone I am thinking that there will be two main issues. First, as already mentioned, will be that the screen is hard to see in direct sunlight. People are already aware of this issue but will purchase the phone anyways, myself included. I'm fine with this. Second is going to be the battery life. While it has been described as being okay, no one is raving about battery life on this phone. With all of the high powered tech and the slightly larger screen, it will use a lot of battery power I imagine. Again, people are aware of this and will purchase the phone anyways. Easy solutions are buy a vehicle charger or, like me, work in an office.

The back cover to me is a non issue do to the fact most people will get a cover for there phone any way. Witch in turn should make it sit flat unless you have belt chip on your cover.

Playing flash videos causes browser/data connection to stop. Have to manually kill the browser. Opening a new window browser still stays frozen.

/edit not a force close...just data connection stops and cant navigate to new page.

I agree. Better build quality than my Droid. Phone is setting the standard for android phones of the future.

Perhaps they will update the market when the phone launches. If some of you bums hadn't gotten yours early by accident, maybe this wouldn't be a problem. :p

    AGREED!!!!

Although, I admit I would like to have their problem :p

I don't think the AMOLED screen (in direct sunlight) is a problem at all. The problem is not the phone but the position/angle it's being held. Otherwise, this problem would apply to all phones. :D

So what apps do we think we cannot see on the Incredible? Played with one at work today for a while and everything I use worked on there. What can I look at for you guys?

And I'm sure the apps will be updated to look for internal storage when the phone is officially released.

Try Store Finder, Paypal, My Point Of Interest Paid, "the free version will appear", Earth to name the ones I cannot access.

I agree. If they show for Droid, they should show for Dinc. Both higher res displays. I think if things are missing, it counts as a bug.
