HTC One and history with EVO3D digitizers

OK, so my wife and I both currently have EVO3Ds are excited about the One (OK, well, at least I am ;)) and as we're waiting patiently (OK, maybe not), my wife's SECOND digitizer has gone south, and it seems my THIRD is starting to act up (no apparent physical damage on any) :banghead:. So now, I'm wondering if we're going to have a similar experience with this One, because I think I'll lose my warm and fuzzy about HTC and Sense.

Full disclosure: I've been repairing the phones myself and broke the volume down button off MY phone  the first time I did it. I've a bit clumsy, but not a total oaf (my wife might disagree, but don't pay her no mind!). I've been getting the parts from Amazon, getting the better rated ones, of course, but not paying more than $20-25 US.

So, my question is: Is/was the digitizer issue mainly a fluke for the 3VO, or are faulty digitizers not uncommon for HTC, or other manufacturers? Or have I just been going on the cheap and I should have paid someone else to do it, having a better source of digitizers?

    Any/all opinions are welcome. Thanks!

It's hard to say but if you replaced an OEM Digitizer with a cheaper 3rd party digitizer then you really can only fault HTC for the first one. Also Do It Yourself repairs without training on a device can have some unknown effects; I am not saying you screwed them up but I have done a few without knowing exactly how to open a device and knocked something out of whack. I think the majority of screen issues with the 3VO were because of the 3D aspects. Having said that I have never had any issues with HTC screens and all my phones (for the most part) in the past 6 years have been HTC and I wouldn't expect the One to have wide spread problems.

I'm pretty sure the first time I got a cheapy, then I got an OEM the 2nd time for MY phone, then the same one for my wife's.

I know I made some mistakes on my phone the first time I did it, but after that, there was no problem (there are some great guides handy).

Thanks for the input, good to know your experience!

Yup so many good reference videos out there on the Interwebs! I tend to be hard headed and screw things up the first time but that is how I learn. I know I have been pretty lucky with devices though; I never really land in the percentage of manufacturing flaws. I did have one issue with my LTEvo and Bluetooth connection but they swapped my phone out and all was well. I always cringe when I read of someone getting dead pixels.

    Dear Mods -

Thanks for all your efforts on trying to keep AF a great place to hang out. I understand the desire to move my thread from the HTC One Forum, to the comparison forums, due to my original title (HTC One vs EVO3D digitizers) . But I really wasn't trying to compare the two devices, just looking at MY history with the 3VO, and get speculation on whether the same might be possible with the One.

    Thanks again!

The wife and I have Evo 4gs and have had no issues with the digitizes in the two years we have owned them.
