Support HTC One X "Wifi Antenne Problem"

    Hi all,

    I have my phone for almost 3 weeks, and few days ago my wifi suddenly losses signal.
    Im standing next to my wireless router and the signal loss is way too much, when i go upstairs it wont even connect...

    My dad has the same htc one x as me, so we tested his and it worked fine, so i came up with an idea and installed Wifi Analyzer app on both and tested...

    My phone is like -80 signal loss, and my dads signal is 100% ok on the phone app. So my wifi is broke what can i do, can this be repaired or do i need to send it back where i bought it.

    Also i checked my wifi settings,ticked the best wifi performance on and also try'd static ip instead of dhcp still same problem....

    Anyone ideas...?

    Are you and your dad both running the same software version? From what I've read, WiFi was broken/unstable on anything prefixed 1.28.xxx.x, but it was fixed in 1.29.xxx.x.

    Same basband info too? Settings -> About Phone -> Software Information -> More -> Baseband Info.

    If it's the same, I'd suggest it could be a hardware issue, although you could try changing the channel on the wireless router, see if that makes a difference? WiFi Analyzer should tell you the best one to use.

    You don't have a case on it either do you? It doesn't happen all the time, but some cases can have an impact on signal strength.

    I try'd several channels, i think its really the wifi antenne because i connected both phone wireless to router then put them on table and dads has 100% signal i have 10%... And there is no case on the back.

    Cant we open the back of the phone?

    Fair enough.

    You can open the back of the phone, but it would void your warranty and I'm not sure how easy it is to put back together. Rather than try a home fix, if you be believe it to be faulty, I'd send it in for repair.

    Try unpluging your modem and wifi router. Sometimes that'll work.

    I'm not sure if anyone is still monitoring this one... I'm having wireless disconnect issues also... All my other devices work fine... Software version is 1.73... baseband info is 0.16a.32.09.06_10.81.32.14L . Any suggestions for me?

    I had the same problems on my phone and couldnt stand it. That and the bluetooth disconnecting all the time. Returned the phone and now have a Google Galaxy Nexus. Thing runs like a champ and no issues at all. Love it!

    Yes, I had the same problem but upgraded the firmware on my router to a newer version and it all works great now.

    Open the back from the phone and clean up the wifi antenne on the top of the volume buttons. Clean it up with an dry cotton swab.

    I can confirm that this is a hardware defect and not a firmware/radio issue. My wifi suddenly died after a week of owning the phone. After days of searching, found this : press firmly on the right side of the camera (screen facing you) and monitor the wifi strength. You'll see that it returns to its old self. There are loose contacts which should touch the back cover, and they don't. You could try and repair / clean and extend those yourself, or you could just return your One X and wait for the S3. Such hardware design defects are unacceptable! :mad:

    Don't know if this method fixes the problems some are experiencing, but I would have thought that this course of action would possibly lead to you voiding your warranty on a phone that's no more than a few months old

    I would think it could be manufacturing quality control issue rather than a design defect, and whilst these faults cause inconvenience to those affected, I would think occasional lapses in quality control are inevitable in any mass production system

    I have this problem too. I can confirm it is a hardware issue

    I've had my One X for about a week now and noticed the same thing. Will even be close to the router yet the WiFi signal drops completely (icon disappears) then appears again.

    Checked the link above (Thanks bigoliver) and I guess I do not suffer a hardware issue since the "squeeze technique" doesn't happen...Will wait for an update, or just trade it in. At the moment I can live with it.

    Thanks kindly for fixing the link, I spent a lot of time on the post and hope it will reach as many people as possible.

    Though the above was my first post here, I have been reading this forum for years. I have always found it really polite and I user friendly. You do a great job.

    Back on topic, HTC know about the fault and I have now heard of a repair center fixing the fault.

    AndrizzleHD it sound like you're problem is not hardware related (thankfully) , have you fixed you problem yet?
