So I have never rooted a phone, what exactly is it and how awesome is it?

It's the same thing as getting admin access on your PC.

    You get control.

On a scale of 1 to Q in awesomeness, it surpasses bacon, the sharktopus and your two favorite tv shows.

Yep he did... Sorry, Early, have to disagree. Rooting falls short of bacon, just like just about everything else (bacon is just beneath manna). Now to root while eating bacon.... :D

Ok, it was all in good fun.

Let's not derail the thread when I'm right. :)

The real point is rooting is full of awesomeness.

Here, you can use it to install roms that give the menu button on top of the back button and reclaim some screen real estate. That's just one example.

To the topic of this thread, source code gives more information to rom developers.

And in this case, information definitely is power.

Those are the real takeaways from this thread. :)

Ok. Now you see it, now you don't. :D

No, seriously, I'm with you, let's hope that this marks a comeback to speedy source delivery.

And that they'll open up the build scripts.
