So ... last night my 9 yr old son was playing a game on my Eris. He asked if he could install a new game from the Market as long as it was free, and I told him sure .
After a bit (I was playing WoW with my older sons, so not sure how long) he handed my my phone back and Sense UI was gone :-( Back to the standard Android UI, 3 home screens instead of 7, no "Phone" button at the bottom, etc, etc, etc.
I called Verizon, who forwarded me to HTC, who basically said if I rebooted the device and it didn't come up, all they could do was hard reset the phone. Honestly, I wasn't too stressed over this, as I've only had the phone 2 weeks, all my apps are backed up (except whatever my son installed last night), so I figured the worst I'd have to do was recreate my bookmarks, reset my home screens, etc. Yeah, it would suck, but no biggie. I was kinda in a hurry, 'cuz I had somewhere to be and wanted a worknig phone last night, so I figured that I could reset, get back up and running, and re-customize at my leisure.
Boy, was I wrong! While most of the inconveniences were minor (i.e. my recipe app didn't save my custom recipes through that process ... now on the market for one that does, just in case, although I'm not sure I'd want to test it ...), I spent the next 90ish minutes on the phone with Verizon because the phone refused to reconnect to their network. I even had one rep tell me they were going to give up and replace my phone under warranty! The tech who finally got me on told me "visit androidforums for tech advice rather than call in next time, you'll get better advice" ... which I knew, and should have done, but like I said I was kinda in a hurry, and I was hoping not to have to wait for a forum. Yeah ... stupid ...
tl;dnr version:
->HTC Sense UI crashed and I couldn't figure out how to get it back up
->Called VZW like a fool and reset my phone
->Spent over an hour getting it even reconnected to the network, let alone recustomized.
So...next time this happens ('cuz I'm keeping the 9yr old ... lol), what should I do to try and restart Sense UI?
