Help HTC Sync Issues

i had a search but couldn't find any with the same issues with the magic (someone did with a Hero but there was no help there)

i have installed HTC Sync (both the older version that was on the phone and downloaded the newer version)

Every time i try to connect it says it cannot find the program on my computer and to check that it's installed or open.

i have tried on 2 computers now, one running Vista, the other running Win7.

Any ideas?
